Job description

The Assistant Vice President, Treasury leads and manages a team of Treasury professionals that is charged with meeting the strategic, operational and day-to-day objectives of EquiTrust. The Assistant Vice President acts as an advisor and coach to the team and carries out their duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with EquiTrust's Company Values of Integrity, Leadership, Accountability, Teamwork and Passion.
The Assistant Vice President is responsible for leading and executing a variety of treasury and financial functions including treasury operations and cash, accounts payable, vendor management, 1099 reporting, short-term investments, liquidity analysis, maintaining relationships with banks & internal customers, and ensuring compliance with treasury management system reporting using Kyriba. Additionally, the Assistant Vice President is involved in assessing, recommending, and implementing products, services, technologies and systems that are available and appropriate for treasury & cash management operations. The Assistant Vice President partners with business leaders to ensure department needs are met. This leader works closely with the Investment Team and Investment Operations to meet investment and operational objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of Treasury professionals, including but not limited to the following activities: makes recommendations and decisions for hiring, termination, promotion, and transfers, assessing and completing performance appraisals, responsibility/workload allocations and task completion, employee engagement, succession planning and talent development, problem identification and resolution and other day-to-day people management and leadership responsibilities.
  • Coaches and motivates staff to continuously provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Establishes best practices and sound controls for treasury & cash management functions
  • Develop a vendor and procurement strategy that will promote mutually beneficial outcomes, cost-effective spending, support the company's drive for vendor/supplier diversity practices, and to build an Environmental Social, and Governance (ESG) procurement program.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures and operational controls and standards.
  • Ensures Treasury functions and processes are integrated effectively into the Company's processes, procedures, and policies to meet established business needs and goals.
  • Monitors daily cash position and overall liquidity position, including bank and custody accounts.
  • Updates cash flow projections and transfers excess funds to investment accounts.
  • Coordinates with Administration on all activities regarding timely approval, creation and mailing of check payments for policyholder benefits and agent commissions.
  • Ensures year-end 1099 IRS forms are completed pertaining to vendor payments.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements for OFAC, Dodd Frank, Basel III, anti-money laundering, life insurance and other regulations.
  • Monitors bank account usage and recommends usage, opening and closing of said accounts.
  • Releases electronic funds transfers to ensure wire transfers occur within established timelines.
  • Coordinates funding of operating accounts.
  • Monitors accounts payable and employee expense reimbursement procedures.
  • Develops and manages the department's budget and seeks opportunities for cost savings initiatives.
  • Provides oversight for security administration of access to bank portals and user permissions and access.
  • Supports the Treasury team and/or other departments on an as needed basis.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to work more efficiently and more productively and as an auditing tool.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology systems and software.
  • Superior judgment regarding decisions that potentially impact multiple departments and external operating groups.
  • Ability to make sound decisions concerning numerous ongoing regular responsibilities and special projects with regard to priority and project assignments.
  • Ability to retain and apply a wide range of confidential and proprietary information in order to protect the privacy of customers, clients and the intellectual property of the company.
  • Ability to influence and/or mentor team members within the greater Accounting function.
  • Must possess a high degree of accountability and ownership for deliverables.
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize and forecast department goals, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Ability to ensure alignment between strategy and operations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team in order to execute strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvements.
  • Ability to accurately analyze, summarize and forecast complex financial data.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to audit one's own work product and the work product of others.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of applications including general ledger systems and other accounting/financial applications.
  • Foster effective working relationships throughout the Company.

Training or Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of treasury reporting experience in the life and/or annuity industry required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of treasury experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role required.
  • ERP system experience, 1099 reporting and filing, and cash flow analysis experience required.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and building key vendor relationships to establish and promote a strong Environmental Social, and Governance (ESG) vendor program preferred.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree - Accounting or Finance required.
  • Master's Degree - Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Certified Treasury Professionalpreferred.
  • Life Management Institute Certification preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • On-Site Location: Chicago, IL, or West Des Moines, IA,
  • Business Travel: Infrequent travel (less than 5% of the time).
