ASSISTANT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR / TOWN ENGINEER POSITION
TOWN OF BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, FLORIDA
The Town of Bay Harbor Islands is hereby actively recruiting applicants for the position of Assistant Town Engineer.
The Town of Bay Harbor Islands was founded in 1947 by the Shepard Broad family. The Town also known as “The Best Kept Secret on the Water” is a two-island vibrant and progressive community located in the heart of Biscayne Bay, nestled between the cities of North Miami, Bal Harbor and Surfside. The Town holds a residential population of approximately 6,000 and is home to A+ rated Ruth K. Broad Elementary School. The Broad Causeway corridor which runs through the heart of Bay Harbor, boasts exclusive shopping, top notch businesses and fine dining all within a picturesque and charming island atmosphere.
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer at Town of Bay Harbor Islands, located in Bay Harbor Islands, FL. The Assistant Town Engineer shall be responsible for performing work and will be assigned tasks by the Town Engineer.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- a variety of design, engineering, and construction tasks associated with the Town's Capital Improvements and public works infrastructure and may assist from time to time under the public works direct the public works employees.
- planning and execution of capital projects, municipal improvements projects, and the operation and maintenance of existing infrastructure.
The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline along with ten (10 or more years of experience in the practice of engineering.
- Current certification as a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer, with 10 years’ experience as a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Bridge design and construction experience in Transportation, MOT’s.
- Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and other related software programs.
- Experience with project management, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Building Department civil engineering plan review.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, managing and reporting N.P.D.E.S.
The ideal candidate will be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida and have experience working with local and state regulatory agencies (i.e. FDOT, DERM, etc.). Experience in the public sector in public works, storm water, water, wastewater, and local government is a plus. The successful candidate must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
