The Assistant Project Manager (APM) assists the Project Manager and Project Management Office (PMO) to provide general administrative, technical, financial, and resource management support for their assigned projects from initial bid preparation through project close-out. The APM is responsible for project data collection, entry, and management within the relevant corporate information systems which will deserve a high attention to detail and thoroughness. In this role, it is essential to learn how the business runs, how changing circumstances are handled, and who to contact when there are questions. Critical for success are excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams.
What You'll Do- Setup, organize, update, and maintain electronic and printed files of project documents utilizing various systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and SharePoint; Primavera P6; JD Edwards B2W; and others.
- Maintain a professional appearance with the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Define problems, collect information, and establish facts to provide an appropriate resolution.
- Support pre-construction efforts in bid preparation, contract and exhibit review, and execution planning.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Schedule and manage subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers.
- Monitor and support construction through communication to ensure the project is built on schedule and within budget.
- Review cost reports and evaluate methods to reduce cost while maintaining productivity.
- Manage budget projection for labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors procured on the project.
- Responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly projections and progress for all construction activities.
- Responsible for project cost forecasting, monthly cost to complete development, and accuracy of reporting
- Responsible for the invoicing or payment application process as well as monitoring the quality of weekly labor and equipment hours, material, and subcontractor reporting for assigned projects.
- Responsible for productivity, efficient use of materials/equipment, and contractual performance of assigned projects.
- Lead daily, weekly, and monthly meetings, as required, including the formulation of the agenda and minutes. Generate daily, weekly, or monthly meeting documents as required.
- Develop, negotiate, submit, track, and maintain client and/or subcontractor change orders.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division or project management.
Required Experience and Education
- Two-year degree in construction science, project management, construction management, construction engineering, engineering, or similar related degree or equivalent
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint).
- Knowledge of project management, project controls, estimating, construction, finance, and contract management.
- Entry level understanding/concepts of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and activities.
- Ability to learn and apply accounting revenue recognition concepts and operations as needed to examine construction operations.
- Familiar with or ready to learn Primavera P6, JD Edwards, QuickBase, and B2W technology platforms.
- Effective communication (verbal, written, presentation, listening).
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
- Ability to travel and work on project location, as required.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Knowledge of interpreting technical specifications, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
- Entry level knowledge of all aspects of project management, project controls, contract management, budgeting, estimating, schedules, and safety required.
Preferred Skills and Education/Credentials
- Preferable to have two years project coordination, construction management, or project controls experience in similar construction.
