St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the cornerstone and oldest division of St. John's University. The College offers three undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Science, and the Bachelor of Fine Arts. Although the College has always emphasized the liberal arts tradition, we offer over 30 majors and 40 minors in the arts and sciences, with dual degree programs in business and education. The college's graduate division provides numerous programs leading to master's and doctorate degrees. St. John's College serves approximately 3300 undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty in the College also teach most courses in the University's core curriculum, which every St. John's University undergraduate student takes regardless of college/school or major. Division/Department Information

The Department of Physics offers three Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Physics, Mathematical Physics, and Physical Science, as well as a minor in Physics. We also offer combined B.S./M.B.A. programs that allow you to complete both degrees within five years. Our courses cover a wide range of topics including electricity and magnetism, quantum theory, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include (1) high-quality teaching for a diverse undergraduate student population; (2) maintain an active research program, including publishing in reputable journals and presenting at conferences; (3) participate in curriculum and program development; (4) participate in department, college, and university events; (5) mentor students and supervise student research projects.

The standard teaching load at St. John's is 9 credits each semester. Each year, faculty can apply for a reduction in their teaching load to 6 credits each semester for intensive research and scholarship. The first year of this position automatically comes with a reduced teaching load of 6 credits each semester.

The candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Physics or in a related area. The department is eager to attract candidates that represent the rich diversity of the students we proudly serve in the New York Metropolitan area. We are seeking candidates who through their teaching, services, and research will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. In addition, the candidates must show evidence of excellence in teaching, professional and scholarly activity, student engagement, and a strong commitment to service participation within the department.
