Description:

The Counseling and Development Program within the Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Educational Studies at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative faculty leader to serve in a full-time non-tenure track position. The faculty member will have experience as a school counselor and/or a clinical mental health professional, provide online and in person instruction to clinical mental health and school counseling students, supervision and management practicum and internship placements both in-person and virtual. Current licensure as an LPC in South Carolina, North Carolina or demonstrated eligibility for LPC in South or North Carolina is required. Duties include clinical supervision for master's level students, online and in person teaching, and collaboration with other units on campus. This position includes expectations of an active member of the core counseling faculty. The successful applicant will teach and advise master's-level students while serving on program and department committees.

The Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling tracks are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP). Major Responsibilities:

  • Clinical supervision of master's-level counseling students
  • Provide leadership including ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders within the university and local community
  • Teach graduate-level counseling courses
  • Collaborate with other program faculty
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to multicultural and social justice counseling competencies as evidenced in clinical work, supervision, and teaching
  • Collaborate with the Program Director/Practicum and Internship Coordinator to ensure that students in the program reach expected clinical competency
  • Work within a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrate a counselor-first professional identity as evidenced via credentials and engagement with professional counseling organizations
  • Actively engage as a core faculty member by advising program students and serving on program, department, and university committees
  • Maintain requirements for serving as a core faculty member through sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations, professional development, and professional service and advocacy (e.g., engagement and presentations in local, state, or national organizations)
  • Provide support at the departmental level with curriculum development, accreditation, program planning, and student recruitment
  • Teach and engage during evenings, summers (this is a 12-month program), and occasional weekends, as needed
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Counselor Education or related field from a CACREP accredited program (ABD considered)
  • Certification in School Counseling and/or Licensed Professional Counseling
  • Experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor and/or School Counselor
  • Experience supervising in a clinical setting:  university, k-12 schools, college or community counseling center
  • Current licensure as an LPC in South Carolina or North Carolina or demonstrated eligibility for LPC in South or NorthCarolina
  • University and online teaching experience, in particular counseling-related courses
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices forclinical mental health

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification in School Counseling and Licensed Professional Counseling
  • Experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with Winthrop students, employees, and alumni
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience facilitating group process and fostering collaborative decision making
  • Proficiency in online instructional design and in online teaching

 Employment Conditions:

Position is full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experiences. Summer employment is likely with sufficient enrollments. This one-year, non-tenure track position may be renewed based on successful teaching and engagement in the program.
