Job description

The Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Children’s Specialty Group and Children’s Wisconsin (CW), seeks board certified / board eligible physicians to join our expanding Pediatric Neonatology Section.  We are comprised of nationally and internationally renowned, dedicated group of faculty and staff with a strong commitment to patient  care.

Our well-established academic program seeks Neonatologists who are motivated to develop independent careers in academic Neonatology.  We are particularly interested in faculty to join our expanding programs in: neuro-NICU and high-risk infant follow up clinic, bronchopulmonary dysplasia service, lung disease research program, small baby program and application of point of care ultrasound at bedside. Our program will provide ample opportunity for collaborative clinical and bench research.  A competitive salary, benefits, and start-up package will be offered. The Neonatology service includes:

  • State of the art, all private room, 70-bed NICU at Children’s Wisconsin, which is a level IV unit with access to all pediatric subspecialties.
  • NICU is adjacent to a high-risk perinatal center with 3600 annual deliveries, including high-risk deliveries for preterm labor and complex fetal anomalies.
  • Perinatal Center is staffed by 9 maternal-fetal medicine faculty and offers a fellowship program.
  • Team of 18 neonatologists, 5 pediatricians, 3 basic scientists and 2 research coordinators.
  • Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship program with 9 fellows.

In addition, our Neonatology section has several NIH-supported physician scientists engaged in bench, translational and clinical research. Active areas of research include pulmonary biology, post-NICU outcomes in bronchopulmonary dysplasia, neonatal neurocritical care, high-risk infant follow-up, prenatal counseling, bioethics, and palliative care. Developing clinical programs include a dedicated inpatient BPD service, neonatal neurocritical care, and a small baby program.   Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Medical College of Wisconsin

At the core of everything we do at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is the pursuit of new knowledge and the power of academic medicine. Bringing together the world’s top scientists and clinicians, inspired students, and invested communities, we are driven to solve the most complex challenges in health and society. MCW is home to a diverse group of thought leaders collaborating to build a healthier world and a continuous cycle of life-changing knowledge.  As a distinguished leader and innovator in the education and development of the next generation of physicians, scientists, pharmacists, and health professionals, MCW is home to more than 1,500 students in the Medical, Graduate, and Pharmacy Schools, over 900 physicians in residency and fellowship programs, approximately 1,650 physicians, and 750 additional healthcare practitioners.  MCW is Wisconsin's leader in health and science. We inspire hope by discovering life-saving treatments and cures, and we train thousands of the world’s most brilliant minds in science and medicine through our academic medical center. We believe the only way to build a healthier world is to build it together, and by investing in the health and vitality of our community, we will improve health for all.

Froedtert Hospital (FH), Milwaukee

Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult tertiary hospital for MCW and is highly regarded for obstetrical care.  FH and its perinatal center are adjacent to and connected to CW, providing seamless partnership with pediatric specialists. In Fiscal Year 2021, we provided care for nearly 3,600 births.  In addition, our Neonatology Section partners closely with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to identify high risk pregnancies through our growing Maternal/Fetal Medicine program, determine care plans, and collaborate to provide the appropriate level of care for the newborns.  Care plans are collaboratively managed with the Newborn Nursery to provide the best and safest care of the newborns.

Children’s Wisconsin and Children’s Specialty Group

Children’s Wisconsin is the state’s only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. With more than 1.3 million annual connections with kids and families statewide, Children’s provides a wide range of care and support — everything from routine care to lifesaving advances and treatment options, foster care and adoption services, child advocacy, and provides an insurance plan.

Children’s and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin – the Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children’s Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 70-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions.

Milwaukee
Located along Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is one of America’s great cities, combining a dynamic urban community with a rich cultural heritage with access to parks, rivers, and other outdoor recreation.  It is home to the 2021 NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks, and headquarters for industry leaders including Northwestern Mutual, Harley Davidson, and others. Milwaukee is a popular venue for sailing, ethnic dining, and cultural festivals; the city is recognized for its museums, fine dining, gardens, and parks.  Located less than two hours from Chicago, you can enjoy all that Wisconsin has to offer while still traveling to the “big city.”
