The Role:

Acting as the Assistant Managing Director and reporting directly to the Managing Director of Hospitality, this role is a pivotal leadership role overseeing and orchestrating successful hotel and restaurant operations. Tasked with ensuring the seamless functioning of the Company’s diverse hospitality ventures, this role involves strategic planning, efficient resource management, and optimizing guest satisfaction. The Assistant Managing Director collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to set and achieve performance objectives, uphold service standards, and implement innovative guest-centric initiatives. With responsibilities spanning from financial oversight and operational efficiency to guest experience enhancement, this role is integral in maintaining the Company’s position as a premier hospitality destination, all while delivering exceptional service and unforgettable stays and dining experiences on Catalina Island.

Supervision Received and Exercised:
Receives general supervision from higher-level managerial staff and direction from higher-level staff.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Managing Director of Hospitality is responsible for: 

  • Collaborate with the Management Team, Executive Committee and Board of Directors to align objectives with company goals and expectations.
  • Set performance expectations for each venue that support overarching objectives.
  • Provide comprehensive customer service and product knowledge training for the hospitality team.
  • Supervise the recruitment process and participate in employee hiring.
  • Foster exceptional customer service and maintain high standards across all venues.
  • Continuously monitor department progress, aligning with company objectives on various time scales.
  • Practice hands-on oversight to ensure anticipated outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead planning and execution of projects and events, making strategic decisions to support team and organizational expectations.
  • Facilitate effective communication among departments to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist venue managers in establishing annual budgets.
  • Develop a budget that optimizes profit margins while maintaining service quality.
  • Optimize revenue generation and profitability while reviewing sales and cost data.
  • Address employee relations matters and conduct disciplinary meetings when necessary.
  • Assume responsibility for risk assessments within venues.
  • Uphold health, safety, and sanitation standards across all venues.
  • Stay well-informed about current legislation and licensing laws.
  • Execute assigned tasks promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to inspire staff in delivering exceptional guest service for achieving financial success.
  • Collaborate with hospitality department leaders to define goals and strategies that align with overall objectives.
  • Spearhead sales and marketing initiatives to promote restaurant & hotel services and amenities.
  • Cultivate the restaurant’s & hotel’s reputation for excellence by ensuring cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Implement innovative sales practices and yield management programs.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and department leaders in regular food tastings to uphold consistently high culinary standards.
  • Conduct regular briefings and meetings with staff to communicate goals, address safety concerns, and provide training.
  • Engage with guests to gather feedback and assess service quality.
  • Manage complaints and oversee service recovery.
  • Enforce compliance with operating standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to applicable laws.
  • Possess a deep understanding of hospitality leaders’ roles to seamlessly step in when needed.
  • Undertake any additional assignments as needed.
Qualifications

Skillset Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in the hospitality industry.
  • 3+ years of management experience with leading, coaching, and training employees. 
  • Degree or certificate in the hospitality field or business.
  • Experience with Restaurant policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge with front and back of house operations, including guest services, housekeeping, kitchen management, and food and beverage service.
  • Current hospitality trends and best practices.
  • Profit and loss analysis for both hotel and restaurant operations.
  • Revenue management strategies, pricing models, and distribution channels.
  • Point-of-sale systems, reservation systems, and inventory management tools.
  • Lead and manage hotel and restaurant operations effectively while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to handle guest concerns and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage budget, cost control, and financial analysis.  
  • Must have current California Food Handler Card, California Servsafe certificate and California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification
  • Requires reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.

 

Physical Required Qualifications:

 

  • Position requires walking and standing for most of the working day; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks. Requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but will escalate during peak season

 

 

Job Expectations regarding Scheduling:

 

  • This position requires a flexible schedule with shifts that consists of a rotating schedule of weekday and weekend shifts, including day, night, and holiday work hours.

 

Relocation Requirements:

  • Must be able and willing to relocate to Santa Catalina Island, CA
