Position responsibilities include:
Monitor Health Services unit and act as a clinical resource for staff.
Oversee and assign duties to nursing personnel as appropriate to caseload, shift/unit, and supervise performance.
Assure adequate coverage on all shifts and fill in as needed during periods of short staffing.
Monitor call-ins and overtime usage by assuming on call status for staff problems and the absence of the Health Services Administrator.
Conduct in-services, audits, chart reviews, statistical evaluations, and inform staff of changes in policy or procedure.
Provide oversight of sick calls, medication administration, and other clinical activities.
Coordinate and report referral of detainees to emergency services based on their medical condition.
Assist the Health Services Administrator with training of security and medical staff for safety/health related issues.
Perform inspections and generate recommendations based on results.
Review medical files to determine if all provided services are documented accurately, legibly, and promptly.
Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary and compliance with all pharmacy regulations.
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures
Take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters by administering basic emergency medical aid.
Ensure that detainees arriving at the facility are oriented to services available and appropriate procedures for obtaining medical services
Verify that all detainees assigned to work as medical orderlies are properly trained and execute the handling of contaminated waste with the appropriate environmental sanitation methods.
Assist the Health Services Administrator in recruiting, orienting, supervising, and evaluating the performance of all healthcare staff.
Complete a yearly written evaluations on all directly supervised staff and a six-month evaluation on new employees.
Education and experience requirements:
Completion of an Accredited Registered Nursing program.
Minimum of three years professional nursing experience with one year of supervisory experience.
Must be a licensed registered nurse in the state of California.
Must possess current CPR certification.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid drivers license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
