The Assistant Manager, Bus Maintenance offers daily support and guidance to maintenance employees, fostering a productive and cost-effective environment. Collaborating with the Warranty department, Quality Assurance team, and Fleet Service supervisors, this role focuses on identifying the planning maintenance processes at the Bus Maintenance garages and Overhaul base. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring the cost-effectiveness of all projects and maintenance activities.
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $40.86/hr. or $84,989/yr. to $46.37/hr. or $96,450/yr.
Full Salary Range:$40.86/hr. or $84,989/yr. to $66.31/hr. or $137,925/yr.

NOTE: This position will establish an eight-month eligible list for current and future positions.
There are three vacancies that will be filled with this position. Each will initially have a focused area and duties are subject to change as business needs change. These responsibilities are in addition to the typical Assistant Manager, Bus Maintenance duties.
- This role will have a focus on newly implemented cleaning and repair standards that will address the customer experience on the road while buses are in route. This position will direct the team on the streets that are performing cleaning and light mechanical duties at layover spots for buses. It will require some work in the elements as the individual will need to travel throughout the cities to check-in with employees and respond to their needs. This individual should have great attention to detail and an interest in project management and new operational initiatives.
- This role will have a focus on the mechanic apprenticeship program. This position will manage the team of technical trainers as they facilitate current and future apprentice cohorts. The Assistant Manager, Bus Maintenance will also facilitate the administrative requirements of the apprenticeship program. They will also travel from garage to garage on occasion to check-in with program stakeholders, ensuring that feedback is considered and potentially implemented.
- This role will be assigned to a garage, location to be determined. It will follow the typical duties of an Assistant Manager, Bus Maintenance and could include additional assignments as business needs change.
- Supervises activities and provides work direction to maintenance employees, ensuring work rules, standards, policies, procedures are maintained.
- Identify and plan Maintenance Campaigns, and related activities to improve productivity and employee performance.
- Provide support and guidance to Supervisors in developing maintenance plans, routine maintenance, predictive maintenance, and preventative maintenance.
- Assist Supervisors in matters of discipline, coaching and counseling following labor management best practices.
- Create maintenance performance reports, lead activities as required to meet department goals.
- Ensure vendor compliance with council policies and procedures.
- Determine workload; consider alternative options of completing work in accordance with several contracts.
- Manage parts, tools, and project procurement processes.
- Enforce Met Council policies and procedures. promote an equitable, positive, engaged, and respectful work environment that values cultural diversity amongst all employees.
- On-call, weekend/holiday work required when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
- High school diploma/GED with nine (9) years of experience and two (2) years of verifiable leadership experience providing work direction and coaching/developing employees.
- Associate's degree with seven (7) years of experience and two (2) years of verifiable leadership experience providing work direction and coaching/developing employees.
- Bachelor's degree or higher with five (5) years of experience and two (2) years of verifiable leadership experience providing work direction and coaching/developing employees.

License Requirement:
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
- Knowledge of diesel engines, automatic transmissions control systems, HVAC, hydraulics, DC electricity, body, brakes, automotive and vehicle industry standards.
- Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies and to develop necessary procedures and methods for the maintenance and repair of such technologies.
- Knowledge of Metro Transit Union Contracts.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

What your work environment would be:
Work is regularly performed in a normal office environment but may require occasional outdoor work with exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work requires occasional local in-state travel by car to visit different facilities. May occasionally travel by air out of state for training and conferences. Work is occasionally performed near moving parts or equipment, in high, precarious places and wet, humid conditions. Position is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally to toxic or caustic chemicals. There is occasional exposure to vibrations and risk of electrical shock. Position is regularly exposed to moderate noise.
