Position Summary:
Supports all maintenance activities of assigned terminal facility. Provides collaboration and support of all department activities and administrative functions. Ensures the efficient, safe, and economical maintenance functions at Port Houston. Oversees and directs management staff responsible for supervision of employees. Responsible for overseeing repairs and maintenance of assigned departments, implementing strategies, and maintaining Port Houston’s equipment assets and facilities. Interacts with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Implement and ensure compliance with Port Houston policies and procedures that govern the operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Follow and promote policies and procedures regarding the performance of maintenance employees.
- Lead, manage, and supervise a large group of skilled craftsmen in an efficient, safe, and economical manner in completing tasks required of a productive Container Terminal operation.
- Develop and implement plans to keep the facility, equipment, and grounds in an extraordinary state of repair and working order.
- Effectively communicate with peers, staff, vendors, stakeholders, internal departments, and tenants regarding planned and emergency maintenance repairs
- Implement and preserve the integrity of sound maintenance practices on equipment and facilities through preventative maintenance programs and procedures.
- Responsible for project management in various capacities with the respective departments
- Review and recommend long range planning in accordance with departmental and organization business and strategic goals.
- Participate in annual budget preparation and cost analysis.
- Manage and administer all equipment maintenance activities and related expenses, including keeping proper records, overseeing capital purchases, maintaining proper inventory of spare parts, and controlling numerous open purchase order accounts.
- Ensure all damage claims for Port Houston equipment and/or property are accurately processed, repaired and billed correctly.
- Prepare all documentation related to projects that require Port Commission or staff approval.
- Ensure environmental and safety compliance in accordance with Port Houston standards.
- Works in collaboration with all departments on projects and special assignments.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager in their absence.
- Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering or Business Administration or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution preferred.
- Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- 5-7 years of related maintenance experience required.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
