Abraham Joshua Heschel School, NYC, is currently seeking a Pitching Coach to join our varsity baseball program and work alongside our staff. The ideal candidate will be able to assist in creating comprehensive practice plans and demonstrate an understanding of skill acquisition as it relates to pitching mechanics, development, and injury prevention. The Pitching Coach will also be responsible for assisting in game management decisions.
REPORTS to: The Director of Athletics and principal
FUNCTION: The coach is responsible for creating an environment that reflects the values and goals of the Heschel Athletics Department. The coach is also responsible for organizing the team to maximize the educational and athletic potential of all student-athletes and allow students to develop an appreciation of baseball.
Education and Certification Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Must be First-Aid-CPR-AED Certified
- Up-to-date Covid-19 vaccination (boosted if eligible)
- A background check and sexual harassment training are also required
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in physical education or related area; any level of coaching certification from a recognized sport governing body
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching/Training
- Demonstrate patience and the ability to meet student-athletes needs regardless of experience
- Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities in a safe, progressive manner that ensures individual growth and development
- Assesses and manages players' behavior and informs the athletic director of athletic performance and concerns
- Supervision
- Ensure that health and safety precautions are taken and observed during all activities.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury and reports all injuries incurred in practice/meets to the Athletic Director.
- Assumes responsibility for the care and supervision of all student-athletes.
- Other Duties
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students.
- Travel with the team to and from games/practices/overnight tournaments.
- Models non-discriminatory practices and fosters an inclusive environment in all aspects of the team.
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned Athletic Director & Principal or other appropriate administrators.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential duties with care and compassion for all student-athletes.
Required:
- Participation or coaching experience at a high level
- Must possess effective communication skills and effective coaching techniques and skills
- Must be able to give feedback that advances a player's knowledge, skill, and confidence.
- Must possess knowledge of the rules and regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport
Job Specifics:
- Length of season- Approximately 4 months (Mid February-June (June-Championship game)
- Two-hour practices- two days per week (Wednesdays (4:45-6:45) and Fridays (2:00-4:00). Must be present at all games.
- Pay rate: 3,000 per season
