Duties include assisting with all aspects of the City’s Emergency Management programs – planning, developing, coordinating and directing comprehensive programs; updating the City’s emergency operations plan; controlling Emergency Management and disaster relief operations and training activities; conducting emergency preparedness exercises; and serving as a key member on the Community Risk Reduction Team. Duties also include preparing warning and preparedness materials; writing and administering grants; making presentations to City officials, the media and the public; and activating the Emergency Operations Center when necessary. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Emergency Management, Business or Public Administration, or a related field is required. Must have a minimum of four years of experience in a state, county or city Emergency Management program, as well as one year supervisory or lead experience; and have knowledge of disaster preparedness laws and regulations. Emergency Management certification (TEM and / or CEM) is preferred. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Texas driver’s license and be able to provide expedient 24-hour on-call support for emergencies. Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires that a thorough background check be conducted. Candidates will be subject to a polygraph exam and criminal history check. In accordance with CJIS requirements, must not have any criminal conviction as an adult or juvenile above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.A résumé must be submitted with application.

Culture

The Irving Fire Department has 385 fire personnel including civilian employees and a general fund budget of $55.7 million. It provides response to fire, medical, extrication, hazardous materials, and other emergencies on a 24 hour per day basis from 12 strategically located stations.
The Fire Department operates 12 engine companies, five aerial truck companies and ten Mobile Intensive Care Units.
The Irving Fire Department became the first fire department in the State of Texas to complete and be awarded Best Practices Recognition status by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) in 2014 and the first to re-certify in 2019.

  • Individuals hired into this position will receive $1000 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete one year of employment without
    documented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000.
  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $3,000.
