Position Purpose:The mission of Thayer Career Services is to support engineering students and alumni in developing strategies for career success through customized coaching and networking resources. The Assistant Director & Career Coach facilitates virtual career development programs for students from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth within engineering degree programs with an emphasis on online students. Provides job-search coaching for students and alumni.
Bachelors plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:• At least three years of professional experience in career education, business and/or similar employment
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent work experience
• Strong career coaching and interpersonal skills • Ability to work with alumni and seasoned professionals with all aspects of the job search and career pivots • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation of workshops
• Experience in program and project development and implementation
• Familiarity with career, employment and hiring trends
• Demonstrated cultural competence and proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations, including international students. •Demonstrated ability to foster relationships among a diverse range of constituents including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and employers.
• Strong time-management skills
• Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems quickly and easily
• Demonstrated team player who takes initiative • Highly adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving organizational setting• If ideal candidate is local, hybrid work would be considered, knowing that flexible hours (such as remote evening appointments with remote students and alumni) would need to be worked into their schedule
•Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.•Experience providing career advising/coaching within a college/university setting.
•Experience with students and/or professionals in fields related to any of the stated College liaison roles.
•Experience with a variety of vendor products for the career services and alumni field such as Handshake and PeopleGrove

Description:Collaborates with Dartmouth partners to increase outreach and engagement with students and alumni

Description:Provides individual and group career coaching (virtually, through email, via telephone, etc.) to all engineering majors, and Dartmouth students interested in engineering, at all levels of academic progress, with a specific focus with seasoned engineers engaged with Thayer’s online degree program. Facilitates workshops and events focused on orientation of services, career exploration, development of career-related skills/competencies and application processes related to internship/entry level job search. Collaborates within the Thayer Career Services team to support a diverse student and alumni population.Coaches students at all levels of academic progress in career exploration, job and internship search, candidate skill development, networking, application and interview preparation, through individual and group coaching. Provides one-on-one advising on topics such as choosing a career direction; developing a job search plan; interviewing (including conducting mock interviews); career-related experience (internships/co-op); writing effective resumes and cover letters; and researching companies and graduate schools.

Description:Manages, coordinates, and executes career-focused events for students – virtually and in-person. Works collaboratively with alumni, staff, and faculty to host events that foster community and enhance students’ knowledge of career education. Supports co-sponsored events and programs by other units, including campus-wide events. Consults with Thayer Career Services team to manage and plan events. Develops and delivers presentations, workshops, and programs (including virtual: events, career fairs, orientations, and program info sessions) relevant to our student population on topics listed above.
