District OfficeMonona Grove School District has an opening for a 1.0 FTE Assistant Director of School Nutrition. The work schedule is 8 hours per day 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday and the position is expected to begin November 27, 2023.
Overview:
The Monona Grove School District is seeking a qualified Assistant Director of School Nutrition to assist School Nutrition operations district-wide.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in hiring and candidate placement in vacant positions.
  • Train new team members.
  • Oversee day to day operations within school kitchens.
  • Arrange shift coverage, as needed.
  • Coach existing team members, applying departmental policies to day to day kitchen operations.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with Federal, state, local, and District policies, and regulations.
  • Direct members of the School Nutrition team in food preparation and service to ensure that kitchen production, safety, and quality objectives are met.
  • Attend and co-facilitate required team meetings and trainings.
  • Address performance and personnel issues as they arise; consult the School Nutrition Director when appropriate.
  • Act as the Director, as needed.
  • Implement and recommend policy, programs, and initiatives with District impact.
  • Develop resources related to the School Nutrition program and meet with students, teachers, team members, vendors, and advisory committees to market the School Nutrition program.
  • Remain up to date on current topics related to School Nutrition (e.g., new products, safety and health requirements, laws, regulations, etc.).
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required to meet USDA Professional Standards.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience, Training, and Licensure
  • Associate's degree with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field preferred
  • Prior food preparation experience or training preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification and/or current Wisconsin Food Manager Certification preferred, or achieved within 6 months of employment.
  • Commercial kitchen experience using a variety of equipment including combi-oven, convection oven, steamer, Robot Coupe veg prep machine, etc.
  • Valid WI driver's license with reliable transportation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to organize and establish priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with members of the School Nutrition team, District staff and community members.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills to discuss sensitive performance issues and resolve issues with proper coaching.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters privately.
  • Must understand the need for teamwork, timeliness, and safety.
  • Must be able to maintain self-control without exhibiting negative behaviors.
  • Must be able to interact with others to accomplish tasks without arousing hostility.
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to changing priorities, new job assignments, and frequent interruptions.
  • Must have the ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks which are often repetitive.
Physical Tasks
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach in all directions, bend/stoop and climb.
  • Must have dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to always follow safety practices, including proper lifting and use of equipment.
