Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In accordance with Association policies, the Before and After School (Y BASE) and Camp Director is responsible for the development, organization, and implementation and facilitation of summer day camp, Before and After School enrichment (Y BASE) at multiple locations, and schools out fun day programs. The Before and After School (Y BASE) and Camp Director will ensure innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, develop, coach and train staff to ensure that participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. Typical work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and occasional weekend events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Directs and supervises and facilitates Before and After School programming, summer camp, and ancillary programs as assigned by the Executive Director.
  2. Ensures that program curriculum and activities meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  4. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with local elementary schools and community organizations.
  7. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  8. Assists in marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.
  9. Creates and schedules all camp, Y Base, and schools out fun day sessions, lesson plans and activities.
  10. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in programs. Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  11. Secures and monitors transportation for field trips.
  12. Purchases and maintains supplies for all program activities.
  13. Maintain accurate staff and child records at all times.
  14. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  15. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Support Campaign.
  16. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  17. Participate in branch, Association and program cabinet meetings as assigned.
  18. Responsible for strict adherence to all Association policies and procedures. Conducts annual review of those policies and procedures.
  19. Be a champion for overall branch membership goals, retention, and satisfaction.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.
  21. Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.

Qualifications
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises leadership staff in Before and After School programming, day camp and other areas as assigned in accordance with the Association policies, mission and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing and resolving issues.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or related field. One to two years related experience working with school-aged children preferred.
  2. One to two years supervisory experience preferred.
  3. Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  5. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  7. CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  8. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
  9. Must have a current driver's license and reliable transportation.
