Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Academic Successand Experiential Learning ("Assistant Director")provides substantive and administrative support to the Assistant Dean of Students and Academic Success ("Assistant Dean") and the Director ofExperiential Learning ("Director").
The Assistant Director works with the Assistant Dean to enhance the learning and academic performance of all law students. The Assistant Director (1) meets individually with students to provide academic feedback and instruction, (2) develops and implements general academic and bar support programs, including summer bar support, (3) teaches all or portions of courses on legal methods and/or bar preparation, and (4) has primary operational responsibility for the implementation of Academic accommodations. The Assistant Director is expected to keep abreast of andragogy, learning theories, learning technologies, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Assistant Director helps track and analyze information regarding bar passage, and may serve on faculty committees as appropriate.
The Assistant Director alsoworks closely with the Director ofExperiential Learning to develop and administer an integrated and comprehensive externship program. Specifically, the Assistant Director administers the judicial externship program providing instruction to students in the classroom component of judicial externship courses and/or assisting other fulltime and adjunct faculty who teach in the classroom component or serve as faculty advisors for judicial extern students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with students individually to provide (1) instruction and feedback on reading and understanding cases, legal writing, legal analysis, time management, and other skills required for success in law school, and (2) counselling on the bar application process and (3) substantive bar exam preparation.
- Implement ADA academic accommodations policies and procedures, including review of requests, organization of review committees (as needed), preparation of formal accommodation plans, and communication of outcomes to students.
- Assist in all aspects (substantive, administrative, logistical) of the development and implementation/teaching of all academic support courses and programs. This includes keeping abreast of and utilizing current best practices and latest developments in learning theory and technology.
- Assist the Director with the management and administration of the Externship Program including outreach and relationship management with externship placement employers. Identification and development of new outstanding externship opportunities, including in-person or virtual placement site visits. Communication to students regarding externship placement opportunities as well as academic requirements and restrictions under Law School policy. Instructional work relating to the classroom component of judicial externship courses and communication with other faculty involved in teaching classroom sessions.
- Implement and manage the Peer Mentor program (Fall and Spring Semester).
- Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned (e.g. supervision of outside vendors including bar preparation companies, committee participation).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree
- Successful passage of written bar examination
- 2-4 years of educational or professional legal experience
- Demonstrated commitment to legal education
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with special aptitude for patience and positive motivation
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize new skills to overcome challenges
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple competing projects
- High-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Lexis and Westlaw
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic and/or bar support experience
- Teaching experience
- Law practice experience, especially work as a judicial intern or judicial law clerk
- Counseling skills
- Andragogy (adult learning theory)
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
