Position Purpose:

To secure and steward unrestricted gifts through the Dartmouth College Fund in support of the Board of Trustees priorities for the institution. To educate alumni about philanthropy and the case for supporting Dartmouth College Fund, engage donors in the life of the College, and demonstrate success in motivating donors toward significant gifts. Manages assigned classes (years 1-4), works with class volunteers to negotiate and set annual class goals and develop approaches and activities that lead to solicitations and gift commitments.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

* Bachelor’s degree with three plus years of experience in a complex college or university development operation; or the equivalent* Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, Trustees, and volunteers* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities* Strong interpersonal skills and listening skills* Ability to work independently and as part of a team* Strong project management and organizational skills* Self-motivated and proactive* Ability to motivate and work effectively with groups and individuals* Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities; strong computer literacy* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion* Demonstrated integrity* Understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors combined with direct solicitation experience* Supervisory experience desired* Strong leadership skills* Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends

Description:

Manages assigned classes and establishes performance goals that support long-range planning for the department, monitors progress against goals, and implements strategies to ensure success in meeting goals. Manages assigned prospect pool for rating, cultivation and gift plan design and solicitation. Recruits, organizes, trains, and motivates volunteers. Creates and executes plans for donor contact and works both alone and with volunteers to develop approaches and activities that lead to solicitation and gift commitments, and that will offer appropriate stewardship to prospects that have made such commitments to the College. Develops short and long-term plans for engagement and solicitation of individual major donors and maintaining ongoing relationships with donors. Educates alumni on the important role philanthropy plays in the fiscal health of the College; cultivates them to become life-long donors through strategic and creative marketing and solicitation. Devises an overall strategy for stewardship of donors. Evaluates results of solicitation activities for each prospect over time and evaluates/re-evaluates potential for future solicitations. Travels to visit prospects as necessary, and often in tandem with senior officers of the College; coordinates appropriate campus visits from prospects. Writes contact reports and compiles other pertinent information following donor visits.

Description:

Manages the Senior Class Gift Program (a graduating class fundraising campaign with the primary objective of building class unity, increasing awareness of the importance of unrestricted gifts to the College, and providing students the opportunity to give back to the College and begin the tradition of alumni support.) Implements the marketing plan for this program through a combination of direct mail, advertising, web, and other electronic medium. Develops approaches and activities, volunteer and recognition and other events, including Daniel Webster dinners, and young alumni events. Leverages available technology to maximize fundraising results. Manages interns and brings a creative approach to planning sessions with senior interns and stays mindful of alternative forms of communications other than the obvious, recognizing, in addition to print, the potential for movies, speeches, events, etc.

Description:

Participates in the preparation of materials for select major donors within assigned classes, based on donors’ interests and resources. Works with research staff and others to compile adequate materials and information in preparation for donor visits and solicitations. Identifies ways for prospects to engage with the College. Analyzes data on volunteer solicitations and makes recommendations. Maintains communication with volunteers, encouraging long-term relations. Updates volunteers and senior managing director on their progress toward meeting goals.

Description:

Participates in marketing programs to convey the case for support of Dartmouth College through a combination of direct mail, advertising, printed and electronic materials. May present illustrations and proposals in a request for support. Articulates and implements strategies for communicating with donors; drafts and customizes institutional correspondence to specific donors.
