Job Summary:
The Assistant Director (AD) is a full-time, twelve-month, live-in position (1.0 FTE) in Housing & Residential Engagement within the Division of Student Affairs and is responsible for student learning and engagement of the Regis community with specific focus on the area of residential responsibility and ancillary role designed to support overall student engagement and success. As an important Student Affairs staff member and educator, the AD ensures integration of student life with the academic core of Regis University. The AD will oversee the Residential Engagement of our on-campus residential students and implementation of the Curricular Approach across the residential community. The AD is expected to develop a collaborative, dynamic living-learning community based in best practice, student development theory, and a culture of care. The incumbent will supervise student staff for their residential areas and their area of ancillary responsibility. They will work closely with other professional staff in HRE, Student Affairs, Auxiliary Services, University Ministry, and Academic Affairs in advancing the strategic priorities of the department, division, and university.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & STUDENT SUCCESS:
  • Oversees a dynamic living/learning community with for the assigned residential area with respect to the dynamic needs of the students
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, develop, and celebrate student staff to include scheduling of desk and other work-study staff, processing of pay-roll, managing employment agreements, and performance management documentation and follow-up.
  • Supervises RAs management of the residential areas to include implementation of the community development model, shaped by a curricular approach that focuses on learning outcomes and intentionality.
  • Works collaboratively with campus partners in serving students and creating a welcoming, inclusive, developmental, and accountable living community.
  • Works collaboratively with University ministry on the peer minister program.
  • Advises an area community council and the area Regis University Student Government Association (RUSGA) senator.
  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of the facility in partnership with Physical Plant in accordance with university policy and procedure to include processing damage billing, ensure the residential environment is welcoming and attended to, and reporting damage so that it can be addressed.
  • Handle emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students, Residence Halls and Off Campus Housing facilities. Serve as the Assistant Director on-call (ADOC) in duty rotations, responding to after- hours situations as the first responder as needed.
  • Responsible for supporting CARE Team efforts by supporting students of concern, engaging conflict mediation, incident response and crises response and follow-up.
  • Promote a safe and secure living environment, respond to student concerns, crises, and emergencies as they arise, and work collaboratively with Campus Safety on education and response to emergencies or crimes.
  • Assesses the community experience in collaboration with HRE staff and modifies programming accordingly.
  • Maintains an area where students are engaged, active, and diversity and inclusion are encouraged and respected.
  • Manages budget and fiscal resources of assigned residential area and ancillary responsibility as directed by the Director of Housing & Residential Engagement

SUPERVISION ANCILLARY AREA:
  • Review and update program outcomes, marketing strategies, program evaluation/assessment for the assigned ancillary responsibility.
  • Recruits, selects develops, and trains the student staff responsible for program area oversight.
  • Meets regularly, using an appreciative advising model and developmental supervision model

  • Monitors student employment hours and work allotment.

UNIVERSITY MISSION:

  • Collaborates on student success with appropriate departments and the HRE team.
  • Is visible and available to students in and outside of the residential area.
  • Is attentive to the holistic growth of residential students and staff.

DEPARTMENT & UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend, monitor and serve as University Official, as necessary, at events sponsored by HRE, with specificity to programs under the AD's purview.
  • Assist with supervision and management of campus-wide events such as move-in, fall leadership summit, New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Family/Legacy Weekend and Ranger Week.
  • Coordinate with Division of Student Affairs and other Regis University departments on campus wide Social Justice Education, Late Night/Weekend Programming, and Interpersonal Violence Prevention & Education
  • In collaboration with the Director, update and implement annual departmental assessment initiatives.
  • Effectively utilize Residential management software and other university software programs to support student success.
  • Oversees housing operations for area of responsibility). This includes ensuring consistent maintenance and housekeeping within the residence halls by conducting building walkthroughs and submitting work orders to Physical Plant, occupancy management and consolidation, and maximizing occupancy through marketing, out-reach, and excellent customer-service.
  • Consistently works with the department team to ensure annual cycle of tasks and services is implemented on time with a focus on excellence.
  • Develop and monitor budgets that support organizational goals and activities, ensure fiscal responsibility, process accounts payable items, and track expenditures.

SUMMER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work 10-20 hours per week in the summer preparing for HRE responsibilities and student training.

  • Work up 20-30 hours per week assisting residential summer camps and conferences in the facilities and occupancy management of their area.
  • Serve in on-call rotation that supports both summer residential students as well as summer conferences & events.

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve on campus committees as needed.
  • Develop content and present as needed for professional and para-professional staff training.

OTHER WORK CONDITIONS:
  • 24-hour oversight of area.
  • On-call duty rotation approximately two times per month.
  • Monday evenings are Res Engagement staff time from 6-10pm (reserved for staff meetings and such).
  • Varied hours but expected to be available from 8:30am-5pm for normal business hours, with flex time provided on Tuesday mornings and after late night events/occurrences.

SCHEDULE: M-F 8:30am- 5:00pm with flexibility as approved by supervisor, university holidays excepted.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience:
  • 1 year of demonstrated achievement in a Student Engagement/Activities/Affairs environment. Demonstrated teamwork, training and facilitation experience. (Two years of Graduate Assistantship will count as one-year professional experience). In Lieu of a master's degree, 2-3 years of full-time professional work experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrate a track record of cultural sensitivity in leadership.
  • Creative and innovative individual and self-motivated worker who can work with minimal supervision. Ability to work with a diverse group of people and personalities and respond gracefully and respectfully in high-pressure situations.
  • Quick learner who possesses the ability to work on their own and come up with solutions to problems and/or limitations. Position also demands that the individual have the ability to determine the course of action to be taken when developing and implementing policies and procedures that involve a diverse group of people and various moral implications.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education

Experience:
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated achievement in a Student Engagement/Activities/Affairs environment. Experience in any of the areas of ancillary responsibility. Demonstrated teamwork, training and facilitation experience.
