Job Description Summary
Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for an Assistant Director - Enterprise Systems (Ellucian Applications & Third - Party Systems).
The Assistant Director - Enterprise Systems (Ellucian Applications & Third - Party Systems) is responsible for managing the Ellucian Colleague (Hank) Enterprise team and all systems within their domain. This individual must demonstrate an ability to lead a team responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, implementation, and business analysis across various business and higher education software solutions. This position reports to the Director of Application Services.
This position typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus ten years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology. However, HFC recognizes that there are alternative career paths where candidates may gain the expertise and ability to perform the essential duties.
Education, experience, and training that demonstrates proficiency and the ability to perform the essential duties will be evaluated for equivalency to the education, competencies, and experience qualifications listed below.
Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday. (Possible opportunity to work hybrid or remotely 2-3 days a week.).
Core Competencies and Qualifications
Designs, produces and executes the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Establishes time lines, assigns resources and monitors ongoing progress. Assesses performance of ERP system and recommends enhancements. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Manages others.
Information Resources Strategy and Planning - Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of information technology (IT) assessment, planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation, such as IT baseline assessment, functional analysis, contingency planning, and disaster recovery.
Enterprise Architecture - Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of enterprise architecture to align information technology (IT) strategy, plans, and systems with the mission, goals, structure, and processes of the organization.
Ensures a smooth and effective data management infrastructure encompassing data warehouses, data stores, database architecture and other related systems. Responsible for overseeing data systems and ensuring they meet organizational requirements. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Significant ingenuity and flexibility is expected.
Problem Solving - Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.
Applied Technical Skills
Extensive experience in:
  • Ellucian Colleague Administration (Hank), including User Interface, WebAdvisor / Self-Service, Restful APIs, Mobile Deployments, ILP, Payment Gateway, DMI, LPR, Synoptix Reporting, Elevate, Ethos, and CRM solutions.
  • Server Operating System Administration, including Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019), RHEL, CentOS.
  • IIS and Apache Tomcat Web Server Administration.
  • Programming/Scripting experience, including Batch, Powershell, Bash, Envision, T-SQL, and JavaScript.
  • MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 Database Systems.
  • Database and application development methodologies.
Analytical Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use a structured troubleshooting methodology to identify, diagnose, resolve, and communicate issues to a diverse user base.
  • Demonstrated ability to use complex analytic judgment and ingenuity to plan and perform difficult work where only general methods may be available.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new processes and procedures where existing methods do not exist, mainly focused on analyzing new external mandates and internal priorities to develop accurate and efficient responses.
  • Strong desire to work with highly complicated technical projects and problems that require exceptional judgment, considerable ingenuity, and initiative in dealing with factors not easily evaluated.

The Assistant Director of Enterprise Systems must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information in one-on-one, small, and large groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to
  • Manage all aspects of the HANK team. The HANK team provides technical and operational support for administrative systems to all areas of the College. Systems include, but are not limited to, Ellucian Colleague, Self-Service, Cornerstone, Chrome River, Elevate, Recruit, CompuSoft, Regroup, Maxient, Simplicity, and many others. The position currently has five direct reports.
  • Provide team members with ongoing performance feedback and development opportunities.
  • Complete team member performance evaluations.
  • Provide management and consulting for all IT Oversite Team projects, including HANK team resources.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and execute project plans for significant college initiatives.
  • Engage in information sharing and training sessions for various employee groups as changes from IT need to be communicated to the broader community.
  • Tune new and existing systems to provide the highest possible performance given the existing constraints.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, and yearly scheduled system processes.
  • Serve as a final escalation point for HelpDesk and Hank team analysts and developers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical issues and processes in our highly integrated software environment.
  • Work as a liaison between end-users and developers.
  • Translate the needs of end-users into identifiable tasks to be completed by developers.
  • Serve as an ITS representative on non-technical committees such as the Guided Pathways Steering Committee and the Technology Investment Committee.
  • Follows established procedures for process customizations and development, including documenting and obtaining user approval on modifications and/or process results.
  • Consults with users to identify and analyze HANK support needs.
  • Develops and recommends specifications for new applications and proposed changes to existing applications on the administrative systems.
  • Maintains familiarity with new technology standards and how each may be applied to HFC systems' future growth and development.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates issue/solution documentation in the College's issues documentation system.
