Assistant Director & Student Support Specialist

Position Title: Assistant Director & Support Services Specialist – Academic Services

Work Schedule: Eleven-month appointment, full-time; Monday – Friday, some evening and weekend work required

Example of Duties:

This position involves frequent verbal, written and email correspondence with students and Adrian College faculty and staff. The successful candidate will:

• Plan, implement, and attend educational and cultural events for TRIO Excel members with approval of the director.
• Order tickets and arrange for group admission
• Reserve van well in advance if needed
• Provide report of each event that includes all receipts and a summary of the event’s educational value that links it to grant objectives
• Serve the needs of a caseload of TRIO Excel participants, acting as a professional mentor, which includes accurate and complete records of the services provided to TRIO Excel participants, including contacts.
• Prepare and present a series of academic and informational workshops
• Provide students in Excel with Financial Aid information and assistance with applying for aid
• Assist Disability Services Specialist in scheduling and proctoring tests
• Work with all 3rd and 4th year students in TRIO Excel to help them select and apply for graduate school Maintain contact with caseload and coordinate use of services
• Supervise TRIO Peer Mentors and TRIO Study Coaches
• Assess learning styles and provide guidance in effective strategies
• Monitor academic progress and provide appropriate support and interventions
• Assist director in monitoring students’ completion of grant aid requirements
• Assist director in completing Annual Performance Report and annual budget
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements:

• Master’s in counseling, education, higher education, or related field is required.

Desired Qualifications:

• Higher education experience preferred.
• Experience working with at-risk students and with TRIO grants is especially valued, as well as a background similar to that of the students served.

Physical requirements:

• Some lifting, bending, and standing is required. Valid driver’s license.

Travel requirements:

• Travel for professional development for a few days within the academic year and taking students on educational and/or cultural trips.
