Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting the Controller with planning and directing the accounting operations of the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Act as coach and mentor to AR, AP, and GL personnel in the Finance department.
- Handle onboarding, training, discipline, and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Oversee the daily workflow of AR, AP, and GL.
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Provide oversight and direction to the accounting personnel in the Finance department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements.
- Establish and maintain internal controls.
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger.
- Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting personnel.
- Assist the Controller with the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with accounting principles adopted by the organization.
- Assist with the budget process.
- Analyze and report cost variances.
- Serve as a liaison to external auditors and income tax preparers and provide needed information for any annual audits and the preparation of the organization’s income tax returns.
- Perform other related ad hoc projects as assigned.
Education/Training Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the requirements for continuing education as outlined in the Quality Control Manual.
- Complete all assigned training courses within the stated timelines.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or in a related field required.
- Five years or more of experience as a senior accountant, accounting manager, and/or Assistant Controller required.
Preferred:
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
