Position Title: Assistant Controller
Reports To: Vice President of Finance

Founded in 1970 and located in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Palomar Products is a global leader in highly reliable secure intercommunication systems for airborne and naval military applications. This includes switching and crew-position units for airborne, shipboard, unmanned, and ground applications for multi-mission platforms. Our systems operate in over 250 unique aircrafts and 9 classes of naval warships around the globe.
Job Summary
A high profile and respected position which requires effective interaction with all levels within the Company plus provides leadership and hands-on management of the finance function in support of Company objectives. Responsibilities may include but not be limited to: Inventory Costing, General Ledger, Financial Reporting, Daily Reporting, Business Analysis, Sox Compliance, and Audit Liaison. Direct reports may include but not be limited to: Sr. Accountant, A/R, A/P and Payroll.
Primary Responsibilities
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Leads the monthly closing, financial reporting and analysis in a compressed 3-day reporting schedule.
* Participate in the company's continuous improvement projects to assist in identifying opportunities and implement cost-saving objective.
* Analyzes and reports on budget vs actual expense performance
* Assist in the preparation of the monthly business review and Business Unit Staff meeting packages
* Assist controller in monthly/quarterly/annually forecasting/budgeting as needed
* Develops forecasts and annual budgets consistent with company objectives.
* Develops business analyses to help identify areas to improve financial performance and support business decision making.
* Assist controller to monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Key Financial Indicators (KFI) to identify operational processes inefficiencies and recommend necessary improvements
* Participates in cost productivity reviews and validates cost savings on a quarterly basis.
* Monitors operational activities for compliance with internal control procedures and SOX requirements. Coordination of all external audit activities including timely provision of audit schedules as required.
* Oversees the cost accounting activities to ensure the ongoing accuracy of product cost information in an actual cost system.
* Reviews the inventory accuracy and monitors cycle count activity to ensure compliance with stated policy.
* Oversees all account reconciliations to ensure they completed on a timely basis
* Oversees Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
* Evaluates the Accounting Team workload and streamlines processes where possible.
* Special projects as required.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Accounting is required.
* Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
* Experience working in a manufacturing company required.
* Experience in Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting required.
* Demonstrated ability to thoroughly understand a business's strategy and determine linkages to financial initiatives and drivers.
* Experience managing people, projects, and tasks ensuring appropriate responsiveness and priority. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain associates within the finance organization.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels within the organization and influence processes across multiple functions and stakeholders.
* Highly computer proficient, including advanced capabilities with Excel.
* Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
Salary Range: $100k-$140K
