Job Title: Assistant Controller (Property Management/Real Estate)
Reports To: Corporate Controller
FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried)
Position Status: Permanent, Full-time
Location: Orange Country, CA
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Salary Range: $120,000 - $125,000 per year
Westport Properties continues to grow rapidly, and we are seeking an Assistant Controller with a strong background in property management and proficient knowledge in GAAP related to real estate accounting and consolidations. The qualified candidate will also have a proven successful track record in an Accountant role handling the day-to-day accounting functions and responsibilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department including month and end-year process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts and account reconciliations, general ledger, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, check runs, etc.
This position must be able to perform the following duties and manage the following area of responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
  • Enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Coordinate and complete annual audits.
  • Provide recommendations for improving systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Meet financial accounting objectives.
  • Coordinate with global entities for financial consolidation and reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support to ensure a competent, trained staff through development, regular assessment, and goal setting.
  • Additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications Required:
  • Minimum of 7+ years accounting experience, in multi-site accounting, property management preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with Yardi Voyager preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP related to real estate accounting and consolidations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, department supervisors and managers, lenders, and other consultants and/or vendors.
  • Ability to work flexible hours depending on various accounting project deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Education:
  • College Degree Required - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • CPA preferred
