ABOUT THE JOB
The Assistant Controller will direct the accounting and financial reporting activities of MU Health Care. Lead a team of accounting professionals. Primary responsibility for compiling monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and maintaining supporting documentation.
SALARY RANGE $126,796 - $206,960

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists the Senior Director, Finance and Controller in ensuring all company accounting controls and systems comply with GAAP and best practices.
- Assists the Senior Director, Finance and Controller in ensuring that accounting transactions conform with management authorization and that transactions are recorded in accordance with GASB, accounting policy, and cost allocation. Collaborate with department leaders to improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes.
- Analyzes and reconciles numerous accounts and general ledger (GL) account activity ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions and corrections.
- Analyzes and reconciles numerous grant/contract financial transaction compliance, timeliness, and accuracy.
- Leads the month-end close by analyzing, calculating, reviewing, preparing, and journalizing GL transactions.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual budget as necessary.
- Prepares periodic reports to various internal and external recipients by due dates.
- Monitors accounting and reporting compliance with federal and state regulations for grants and contracts.
- Assists the Senior Director, Finance and Controller with financial audits by compiling audit deliverables.
- Collaborates with other departments regarding financial matters.
- Assists in the set-up and management of accounting software.
- Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
- Participates in staff meetings, supervision, training, and other meetings as assigned.
- Oversee the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care across units.
- Direct the implementation and oversight of MU Health Care time and attendance policies and practices.
- May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting.
Five (5) years of experience in accounting or finance, including compiling standard financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
Two (2) years of experience managing staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure.
Two (2) years of experience in public accounting with an emphasis in audit.
Experience in a hospital accounting or finance setting.
Experience with Power BI and Power Query.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
