Job Description:
Previous experience should be in automotive, or aerospace is a must
- The candidate should be able to perform various Upholstery activities like: Remove, install, Rework, Adjust leather or fabric covers on all the different components from the seats/Divans. The experience could be relative from any of the following industries (automotive, aerospace, boating, or similar)
- Upholsterers are responsible for fabricating custom designs made out of fabric and other materials. The work involves cutting, measuring, and sewing. Skilled at reading patterns and working with industrial sewing machines and other equipment such as grommet machines, heat seal machines, and more. It is highly repetitive production work that requires precision and a good eye for detail.
Required Skills:
- Sewing machine setup (changing thread, bobbins, and needles as needed) needle prepping and joining
- creating and cutting patterns inspecting product for defects, damage, or stains marking products, work pieces, or equipment with identifying information comparing physical characteristics of materials or products to specifications or standards Interpreting cover patterns to perform sewing functions Cut leather and fabric as needed using patterns
- Prepare sewing pieces
- Sew leather and fabric dress coves with very high precision and very high quality expectations
- Operator needs to be able to perform top stitch (single and double) on leather and fabric
Education And/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
What Does an Upholsterer Do?
- Construct/repair upholstered furniture by covering with materials such as leather, cotton, or suede.
- Build or rebuild furniture (sofas, mattresses, and chairs) by replacing damaged frames and padding with fabrics.
- Remove worn coverings, padding, and webbings from furniture.
- Pull off anchoring tacks prior to removing coverings to allow for material reuse.
- Remove burlap which covers the springs to replace broken or worn springs in a piece of furniture.
- Repair broken or defective wooden frames, using glue to bind a damaged frame or replace it altogether using a hammer, a saw, and nails.
- Strip upholstered furniture down to its wooden frame to identify defects and conduct repairs.
- Conduct repairs in automobile upholstery as well as produce coverings/materials for furniture.
- Take measurements and accurately cut materials required for furniture upholstery.
