ABOUT PAFA

Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is America's first school and museum of fine arts. Located in center city Philadelphia, PAFA is intimate in scale with a strong sense of community. PAFA’s undergraduate degree offerings include a BFA in Studio Art and a coordinated BFA with the University of Pennsylvania. Graduate programs include an MFA and Low-Residency MFA degree, and a Post-Baccalaureate certificate. PAFA’s museum has an outstanding collection of American art, and the museum actively collects and exhibits contemporary art, including work in new media. Additionally, PAFA is home to the Brodsky Center, a print and papermaking center focused on the creation of innovative editions by contemporary artists.

POSITION: Art of Observation Facilitator

The Art of Observation Facilitator is a contracted position at PAFA and the selected individual will report to the Assistant Director of Education Programs and Professional Development in an effort to facilitate workshops in Art of Observation Programs for medical and professional clients. These programs help participants develop clinical, interpersonal, cultural fluency, and critical thinking skills through deep engagement with the arts. The Art of Observation Facilitator will facilitate PAFA-developed signature courses and workshops according to superlative standards, including presenting approved content in an engaging way, enabling discussions of potentially sensitive topics, and making space for intellectual and emotional growth for participants.

Facilitators will receive a maximum of 10 hours of compensated training time; then be available for facilitating workshops and courses as partner’s contract with PAFA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate PAFA-developed signature humanities courses and workshops for medical students, medical professional, and other professional audiences
• Present content in a clear, fluent and engaging way
• Empower conversations around art, emotions, history, science and bias with sensitivity and good humor
• Support making a safe, comfortable and engaging learning environment
• Teach sessions in classroom, museum, and online settings
• Communicate effectively with supervisor around scheduling and availability
