POSITION: Applications Controls Engineer II (Exempt)
DEPARTMENT: Sales
REPORTS TO: Applications Manager
TRAVEL: 5% - 15% (Domestic and International)
WFH: Hybrid (1-2 Days per week)
OBJECTIVE: The Applications Controls Engineer II performs a wide variety of technical assessments of customers' and markets' requirements in support of sales and business development activities, reviews design, performance and overall systems requirements and functional data with the engineering group; develops and prepares detailed proposals for potential and existing accounts/customers. Capable of executing proposal development and approval process for a range of electrical systems. These systems will vary in size and complexity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for conceptual development, preparation of cost model and writing detailed technical proposals for all types of electrical build to print or design to order electrical/controls equipment and projects.
- Formulate BOM for each estimate and receive multiple 3 party quotes for each proposal.
- Involve other IDI engineers as required for complex vision, robotic, and or unique electrical systems.
- Travels to the customer's site to assist in project or product development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives, and standards.
- Provides sales presentations to customer personnel, when required.
- Obtains and prepares detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor and material costs required for work areas such as: electrical design, testing, machining, wiring, labeling, installations and testing processes.
- Assembles and collects all necessary technical information and customer specifications from engineering and sales & marketing, in order to prepare detailed proposals including compliance matrices, assumptions, value upsell options, service offerings, and any strategic win for IDI opportunities.
- Assists in special projects in support for engineering and sales and marketing.
- Adequately defines scope of work in proposals to allow project manager and project team to begin work on system.
- Guide IDI assembly standards globally with wiring standards, specs, colors, internal library, and software.
- Meets agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.
- Assist and attend technical seminars and industry exhibitions.
- Full compliance to the terms and conditions within the employee signed work from home policy.
- Onboarding, ongoing training, and interviewing will be required from time to time – full support required.

- Complete all required Health, Safety, and Environmental training and maintain records for audits.
- Assist in investigating any accidents/incidents or near misses if requested.
- Refrain from engaging in any unruly conduct.
- Ensure that equipment, materials and protective devices are functioning in a safe manner
- Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures
- Do not report to work-onsite, at a customer’s site, or travel on behalf of IDI when feeling ill. Contact your leader immediately.

- i.e. Properly dispose of liquids to prevent improper contaminants into the drain and surrounding water systems
- i.e. Smoking/Vaping is only allowed in the designated spaces per division communicated locations – NOT within 10’ of any door, parking lot, or the trash/recycling areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- A post-secondary 2- or 4-year diploma or degree specializing in Electrical Engineering
- Three (3) years’ experience in electrical systems design and applications engineering, working knowledge of panels, PLC’s, HMI’s, machine controls and manufacturing engineering and processes; Requires solid technical assessment and presentation skills, knowledge of preparing complex proposals and quotes.
- Strong ability to reach electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design tools such as 2D and 3D software ACAD or SolidWorks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
- Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens
- Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
- Working Conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
- Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
