Job Summary

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in industrial settings. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, equipment, and safety protocols. Industrial Electricians work closely with engineers, maintenance personnel, and other professionals to ensure the proper functioning of electrical components within industrial facilities. This position will also provide general maintenance support as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in industrial settings, including factories, manufacturing plants, and processing facilities.
  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine wiring layouts, specifications, and installation procedures.
  • Install and troubleshoot electrical components such as transformers, motors, generators, circuit breakers, switches, and control systems.
  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Diagnose electrical problems using testing devices and equipment, and implement effective solutions to resolve issues.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, codes, and regulations governing electrical work, including NFPA 70E and OSHA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other personnel to plan and execute electrical projects and upgrades.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, including maintenance schedules, equipment repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Stay current with advancements in electrical technology and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and breakdowns to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and management to coordinate work activities and prioritize tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install all plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to all material handling equipment components.
  • Ensure and adhere to safe work practices and procedures including, but not limited to, lockout/tag out and confined space rules and regulations.
  • Perform routine mechanical, electrical, welding, or machining maintenance activities on equipment including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts; order and maintain stock levels of lubricants used in plant equipment.
  • Understand, proficiently use, and safely operate overhead cranes and rigging techniques.
  • Assist in remodeling projects (e.g., painting, assembling furniture, etc.).
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities within the departments.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Prior experience with 480V 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Repair of material handling equipment.
  • Math and blueprint reading skills.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure.
  • Blueprint and electrical schematic reading.
  • Industrial electrical and electronic principles.
  • Ability to commit to a flexible schedule and prompt arrival for shifts.
  • Familiarity with setting up and operating hand and power tools.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or vocational training in electrical systems preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician license or relevant certification required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as an Industrial Electrician in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical principles, theories, and practices, including AC/DC circuits, voltage, current, resistance, and Ohm’s Law.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and motor control circuits.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in diverse environments, including confined spaces, heights, and areas with exposure to extreme temperatures and noise levels.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and clients.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed to support operational requirements.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Working Conditions

  • Working conditions may include working outside of a climate-controlled environment for long periods of time.
  • PPE is required per company procedures and includes safety shoes, safety glasses, and safety vest.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, sitting, standing, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
