Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Machine Controls team. You will work on GP's biggest capital opportunities across the country as a Project Discipline Lead for our Consumer Products, Packaging & Cellulose, and Dixie manufacturing sites .

This role can be based out of one of our facilities or it can be home based.

This position is a n excellent opportunity to challenge your technical, organizational, and leadership skills while creating long term value for our operations partners. You will be part of the Machine Controls team within the Projects and Engineering Team which is responsible for executing large capital projects typically five million or larger in spend. A successful candidate will enjoy utilizing your engineering expertise to deliver new installations from concept through completion. You will also solve problems to improve the safety, reliability, automation, and functionality of existing machine control systems.

Our Team

The Georgia-Pacific Projects and Engineering Team consists of about 130 individuals across the United States. We are engineers, project managers, subject matter experts, and designers working with our 22 continuous manufacturing facilities to achieve one team, one vision, one result. The Machine Controls team focuses on integrating electrical, discrete controls, automation, safety, and data. We partner to deliver projects, electrical and Controls Engineering solutions, and technology platforms that enable our manufacturing capability to maximize value add, allowing us to compete, win, and lead.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and collaborate with external/internal engineering resources to support project execution
  • Drive project teams to successfully deliver the scope of work on budget and on time throughout detailed design, construction, turnover to operations, and closeout
  • Guide and participate in the development, evaluation, recommendation, and selection of electrical and controls technologies with cross functional teams
  • Build relationships, coach, and share knowledge to provide platform solutions and improved standards implementation across GP manufacturing sites
  • Perform machine controls programming and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and industrial communications networks
  • Focus on machine functional safety, apply safety risk reduction standards to designs, and validate safety systems in the field.
  • Advance the control systems vision for the organization, communicate complex technical issues to a varied audience, and consult as a Subject Matter Expert

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience working in an electrical engineering, automation, machine control or process control field
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of the design, construction, operation, reliability and maintenance of manufacturing processes
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment design, programming, and integration
  • Experience working with multiple vintages of PLC platforms, VFDs, servos, machine safety systems, or 3-phase motor controls
  • Experience working with fieldbus communication networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, or Profibus
  • Able to travel up to 50% of the time depending on the project

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Associate degree or higher in an Engineering field
  • Five (5) or more years of leadership experience in Automation, Machine Control or Process Control
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience working within the pulp and paper industry, including converting equipment, conveyors, packaging, material handling, or paper machine reels and winders
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with machine safety systems or TUV functional safety certification, including performing safety validations per EN / ISO 13849
  • Experience implementing machine vision systems, production and downtime reporting systems, or other Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies
  • Experience with facility power distribution and building infrastructure systems including Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), lighting, HVAC and dust collection, alarm systems, and low voltage DC systems
  • Experience referencing and applying National Electrical Code, NFPA 79, and NFPA 70E
  • Project Management experience and/or Professional Engineer (PE) License

For this role, we anticipate paying $125k - $165k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
