As the Application Engineer you will become an integral part of the Water Flow Solutions (WFS) Value Stream support team. Mueller Company has an immediate opening for an Application Engineer. This position will be based in the Company's Chattanooga, Tennessee manufacturing location for Iron Gate Valves.
The primary duty is to provide technical support to internal and external customers (e.g. customer service, sales and service field personnel and customers). This will include answering technical questions concerning products, specifications, product requirements, etc. as well as support of New Product Development projects. This position will report through the Product Management Department.
The ideal candidate for this role is a person that (i) has excellent people skills as this position can only be effective with developing working relationships driving change and topics to completion; (ii) technical-minded and can think through mechanical issues to provide solutions; (iii) understands marketing and detailed technical writing to effectively communicate product details and application requirements; (iv) is very organized and a self-starter to keep driving topics to completion.
Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Be the subject matter expert for iron gate valves.
• Provide technical support for internal and external customers. Work with internal and external customers in troubleshooting technical issues and provide guidance regarding product application.
• When escalated from customer service, provide support needed to resolve customer complaints and issues including all paperwork and follow up until process is complete.
• Comprehend specifications as they relate to changing industry requirements while leading or supporting changes to meet these requirements within the Mueller product portfolio.
• Organize and keep a library of internal technical documentation.
• Organize, add to, and maintain a library of competitive products and cross- reference documents
• Assist in preparing information for Marketing related announcements and literature
• Grow the Mueller Gate Valve library of documents related to the product portfolio
• Drive product lifecycle management on product portfolio
• Organize and support new product development projects for the iron valve value stream
• Lead product demo and training activities to support new product launches
• Work closely with internal teams to drive improvements to products, and project manage when required.
• Conduct market research to ensure product viability and relevance and introduce new product ideas with supporting market research to drive business decisions.
• Other duties as assigned from Product Manager or other company personnel.

Required Skills:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Marketing, or equivalent experience
• Excellent customer service and good communication skills both verbal and oral
• Proven ability to initiate and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers and colleagues.
• Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and accuracy
• Must be a "hands-on" individual and be able to handle multiple tasks and priorities
• Able to understand mechanisms and basic engineering principals
• Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
• Must be able to travel as needed. (Travel is estimated to be up to 25%.)

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience using SolidWorks
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Process Minding to be able to improve business processes when identified
• Experience AWS QuickSight or other data programs
• Two or more years of experience providing technical expertise

Primary work hours will be Monday through Friday and will vary based on customer requirements. This position is salaried exempt and does not qualify for overtime pay. This position will be working from the Chattanooga Plant.
