GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing high quality design work to sales and clients in a timely manner while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. Uses interior design principles to create design concepts, working drawings and specifications for customers to meet their furniture systems needs. This position may support both commercial and Government products.
This position will focus on Knoll products and Central and Eastern time zone candidates preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Articulate applications that support various product applications.
  • Assist sales during client presentation and in the development of sales strategies where appropriate.
  • Assists sales with finish selections.
  • Collaborate with professional services of other licensed trades (i.e. GC, electrical contractor, etc.) regarding the furniture and client requirements.
  • Conduct needs assessments with the Sales Team to understand the client and/or design firm objectives.
  • Contribute new ideas to better develop or create design processes and procedures.
  • Create drawings and renderings to communicate a Design solution in an effective manner.
  • Create presentation boards and/or sales tools when needed.
  • Develop block plans, layouts, and specifications and check all plans for design integrity, completeness, and compliance with local codes and ADA requirements.
  • Develop differentiating design applications of Herman Miller Group solutions to solve our customers’ needs.
  • Ensure space planning for furniture is code compliant.
  • Generate required documentation for installation phase of a project.
  • Maintain accurate client files, both off and on the computer.
  • Maintain contact with clients during critical phases of each job, including site visits as appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry, products, methods, and promotional strategies, as well as trends in design.
  • Maintain the highest level of specification and rendering software.
  • Manage work load in a timely and efficient manner.
  • May attend initial client meeting with salesperson to gather programming data.
  • Participate in reviewing post occupancy evaluation and punch list.
  • Perform competitor design/application research to drive optimal value-added solutions.
  • Provide guidance and mentor other Designers
  • Work as a 'team player' to Sales Members and other operational employees;
  • Works as a team player with Sales, PM, and Customer Service Coordinator (CSC) throughout all the critical phases of each job.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design. required.
  • 5+ years of experience of industry experience with a furniture manufacturer or dealer, required.
  • Specific expertise on Knoll systems and private office products.
  • NCIDQ and/or Herman Miller PEAK certification, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with space planning, specification and systems furniture.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external business partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously and successfully complete in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation skills.
  • Flexible to adapt to frequent changing needs.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, sound judgment in business transactions providing the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in AutoCAD, CET, CAP Studio, SketchUp, Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to apply logic and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages and develop and interpret bar graphs.
  • Experience with RFP response.
  • The ability to successfully coordinate the efforts of internal and external resources.

A starting compensation range for this role is $60,500.00 - $75,575.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
