Darlington County Humane Society is a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting humane care of dogs and cats in Darlington County.
The Administrative Assistant at the Animal Shelter plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations and ensuring efficient administrative functions. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills, a passion for animal welfare, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide general administrative support to the shelter staff and management.
- Answer phone calls, respond to emails, and assist with inquiries from the public.
- Maintain accurate and organized records, including adoption paperwork, veterinary records, and other relevant documents.
- Assist in data entry and record-keeping using shelter management software.
- Interact with shelter visitors, adopters, and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide information about available animals, adoption processes, and general shelter policies.
- Assist with scheduling appointments for adoptions, surrenders, and veterinary services.
- Maintain a clean and organized office environment.
- Assist in managing supply inventory and placing orders as needed.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in using standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
- Ability to learn and use shelter management software.
- Passion for animal welfare issues.
- Must be comfortable working with and around animals.
- Must be 21 years of age or older and authorized to work in the US.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) is essential for this role, as occasional assistance with moving supplies and equipment may be required.
Working Conditions:
This position may require occasional weekend or evening hours during special events or busy periods.
