SUMMARY
The Shelter Manager is a full-time position overseeing the front-of-house staff to ensure proper animal care protocols are followed. In addition to training front-of-house staff and performing reviews for the front-of-house, the Director of Operations maintains a constant flow throughout the shelter regarding animal movement. The Director of Operations also maintains the budget for shelter income and expenses as set by the Executive Director. The duties of the Director of Operations include but are not limited to the list below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Oversee hiring decisions for all front-of-house positions in alignment with the organizational chart and needs
- Hire, supervise, evaluate, promote, discipline, and terminate shelter staff
- Develop new programs and services in align with Dorchester Paws Mission
- Perform annual performance reviews for front-of-house employees
- Disburse funds within approved budget limits
- Communicate with HR about staff
- Ensure proper procedures and policy documentations are complete for the entire shelter and available to staff
- Continue to improve customer service at the shelter and teamwork among staff members
- Communicate with HR about postings for job openings
- Expedite and oversee all animal movement with intakes, adoptions, foster/rescue, spay/neuter surgeries, and veterinary care
- Coordinate adoption events with the Volunteer Coordinator and the Animal Care Manager
- Point of contact for Animal Control
- Ensure all national animal databases are up to date with shelter statistics
- Assist with shelter maintenance
- Ensure all cleaning protocols are followed and in line with shelter standards
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Director of Operations will work both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time. Must be able to have reliable transportation to conduct all work in and out of the shelter in Summerville. This role requires flexibility and the ability to stand, lift, kneel, crouch, and bend.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
