Job Description
ABSS Solutions, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a full-time Analytical Chemist to lead a joint strategic project with our team, providing Medical Research support to the 59th Medical Wing in San Antonio, Texas. ASI administers a comprehensive research and development contract providing an array of research projects for customers across the DoD space. Our research teams work with Federal Agencies, educational institutions, and other third-party organizations to maximize readiness and resilience for members of our Armed Forces.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs services in support of the technical activities of the toxicology laboratory of CIRS by developing and modifying analytical procedures related to testing prescription and non-prescription drugs by using chemical extraction and LC/MS/MS analysis.
- Reviews analytical procedures in progress and data produced and provides technical advice and corrections to ensure the validity of results.
- Verifies that all work complies with applicable DoD directives, Air Force Instructions and established CIRS operating instructions.
- Operates and maintains scientific instrumentation to include Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry analyzers and programs a variety of complex instrument types with different data systems, including but not limited to Waters MassLynx, Empower3 and/or AB Sciex Analyst.
- Assists in developing extraction methods and techniques to isolate drugs.
- Interprets complex and diverse analytical data and provides actions and/or written reports for solutions.
- Assist in development and implementation of improved analytical methods or processes for increasing the efficiency and quality of laboratory operations.
- Assist in solving analytical problems presented to the laboratory on a day-to-day basis. Provides scientific evaluation / interpretation of drug results and analytical methods to department head.
- Complies and adheres to all policies and procedures on safety, computer security, and laboratory security.
- Stays current with laboratory practices, regulations and policies dictated by laboratory and regulatory agencies.
- Attends classes, briefings, reads operating instructions, and other training when available, applicable, and approved. Takes approved corrective action as needed.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- United States citizen
- Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) program in chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology, or pharmacology.
- Minimum 3 years of experience within the last 10 years in the use of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analyzers, chemical extraction and derivatization, chromatography and mass spectrometry. Individual must have a minimum of one (1) year of personal experience in developing and performing extraction and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of analytical method development and validation, drug testing procedures, use of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analyzers and associated equipment, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Professional knowledge of the various chemistry disciplines to include
- Analytical, organic, and forensic chemistry sufficient to perform the full range of duties connected with the technical activities of the confirmation section which includes mathematics and statistics as related to quality control, quality assurance, and confirmation procedures.
- Knowledge of the types of surveillance needed to monitor variables that affect the quality of services, and skill in evaluating and interpreting results of quality control procedures and implementing corrective action where indicated.
- Practical knowledge of computer operations to ensure proper control of specimens and to produce scientific charts and data presentations in written and graphic forms.
- Knowledge and understanding of recognized reference standards, use and storage of controlled substances in an appropriate manner.
- Skill in written and oral communication.
