Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:

Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Possesses the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising, and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of Aircraft Mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike. Must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Hydraulic/Pneumatic, Mechanical Flight Control Systems, Power Plants and related Sub-Systems, Fuel and Air Systems, Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems, Flight Control Systems, Avionics/Electrical Systems, and related Sub-Systems

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.

  • Aircraft Mechanic III shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.

  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.

  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.

  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.

  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

  • Familiar with duties assigned to personnel within all work centers.

  • Assists in coordinating aircraft moves and static display requirements.

  • Liaisons with base personnel for other requirements to include but not limited to fueling / defueling operations, fire department etc.

  • Performs Functional Check Flight briefs between Pilots and Quality Assurance Department.

  • Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, launch and recover aircraft, and Preventive Maintenance Daily Inspections.

  • Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance.

  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned E-2C aircraft.

  • Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation.

  • Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in in the activities plan and daily flight schedule.

  • Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means.

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, pneumatic, hydraulic, ventilation and heating, flight surfaces and controls, dynamic components, and powerplant systems.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement, and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).

  • Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/subcomponents to include rigging of flight control.

  • Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six or more years E-2C experience.

  • Must be able to qualify to release aircraft Safe for Flight.

  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift as required.

  • Shall be able to travel in support of detachment operations as required.

  • Basic Corrosion Control Course.

  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and work above and below aircraft.

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.

  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.

  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC)

    Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to become eligible for a Secret Security Clearance

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data system.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Ten or more years of aircraft maintenance experience.

  • Previously certified to release E-2 aircraft Safe-for-Flight.

  • Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management for Optimized Organization Maintenance Activity course (C-555-0053) or if previously completed, both the Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management course (Course D/E-555-0040) and the Naval Aviation Officer and Senior Supervisor NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization course (Course D/E-555-0054).

  • Make and/or Certify Aircraft, Engine, ALSS, Egress, Armament and Support Equipment Logbooks and Records entries.

  • Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) for Airframes, Power Plants and Electrical Systems.

  • Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for Line, Corrosion Control and Avionics Systems.

  • Quality Assurance Safety Observer (QASO).

  • Ammunition & Explosive handling qualifications.
