Job description

The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation's space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space- delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you'll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration - to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves.

The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to Senior Leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including Air Force Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and Senior Leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.

The Enterprise Engineering and Technology Futures department provides technical leadership for the Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power Program Executive Officer (PEO). The department is responsible for architecting and integrating across the portfolio, creating and executing advanced technology demonstrations, and applying digital engineering practices to accelerate fielding of effective capabilities to the warfighter.

Work will be performed 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

  • Lead a team of creative, mission-focused personnel to start-up new projects to define future mission concepts and develop technology demonstrations with mission partners
  • Team with science and technology partners in Government, Academia, and Industry to find cutting-edge technologies with mission applications
  • Lead teams of subject matter experts to perform technical oversight of technology efforts and ensure successful delivery to the Government
  • Assist the Government in technical and program management for technology projects
  • Advise corporate leadership on research and development investment priorities to maximize impact to customer mission

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, math or other relevant technical discipline
  • 12 years or more of relevant technical experience that includes systems engineering and development
  • Experience in engineering systems for space, defense or similar real-world applications
  • Experience with program management and contractor oversight
  • Pro-active mindset to learn and seek new technologies to solve challenging customer problems
  • Willing to travel domestically approx. 25% of the time
  • This position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Graduate degree in engineering, science, math, or other relevant technical discipline
  • Experience in research and development (R&D), technology development or similar activities to create and mature nascent technologies
  • Experience working in smaller, start-up environments with proven track-record to build customer relationships and create innovative, new products
  • Experience working with non-space joint warfighting domains or services (e.g. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps)
