Position Summary
The purpose of this intermediate level position is to perform intermediate work assignments involving independent judgment to determine course of action consistent with established functional and organization's policies and tax code. This position requires familiarity of semi-complex concepts in functional area to perform semi-routine work activities with limited supervision. It is critical to be able to think and act independently on assigned projects. Typically, will interface with departmental staff and commitment to customer service is important.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Learn and keep current of new and revised tax laws and proper tax code.

- Keep team and supervisor informed regarding the progress and status of work activities.

Technical Responsibilities
INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE:
- Serve the property owners and general public by answering telephone calls in a professional, courteous and empathetic manner, controlling the tone and outcome of each call.
- Act as an information specialist and public relations representative.
- Communicate procedures and important deadlines for action to both property owners and HCAD personnel.
- Resolve semi-complex issues related to protests, exemptions, renditions, valuation, HCAD records.
- Perform semi-complex account research to resolve property issues through split outs, acreage corrections, combinations of real property accounts.
- Accurately key files assigned in a timely manner.
- Research and analyze property information by collecting and verifying HCAD records.
- Process incoming mail.
- Provide semi-complex technical and clerical support by researching various department documents.
- Communicates procedures and important deadlines for action to both property owners and HCAD personnel.
- QC work for accuracy.
- Key government files for proration and total takings.
- Create and update accounts from files in order to maintain WinRDE database.
- Create spreadsheets, delete, modify and add accounts.
- Maintain HCAD records and database.
- Keep daily production report.
- Assist in other sections within I&A with keying agent fids (fiduciary) and protests to meet established deadlines.
Minimum Requirements
Education Requirements and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- <2 years of college level courses or equivalent work experience preferred
- Must complete TDLR courses 101, 102, 4 and 7 within two years of employment preferred.
- 2-4 years of related work experience in customer service and mailroom.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time in an office setting.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, walking, talking and hearing. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down on steps. Must be able to lift up to 50-pound file boxes. The position requires considerable concentration, creativity and ability to manage time effectively. The position is subject to stress caused by a changing public environment, mandatory deadlines and heavy workload. Requires the ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
