CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - ANIMAL CONTROL
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of administrative, secretarial and clerical duties to assist in ensuring effective and efficient office operation. Performs routine bookkeeping tasks. Supervises daily clerical activities. Assists with special projects of the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Oversees the clerical and secretarial functions of the office; provides guidance and direction to staff members with routine clerical and administrative tasks; assists in completing daily administrative functions.
Performs various administrative support tasks for special projects; involves researching and analyzing information; coordinates related tasks; prepares resolutions, contracts, and related documents; maintains department records, indexes and logs.
Dispatches calls to officers and responds to radio traffic.
Receives, sorts, processes and forwards incoming mail; prepares outgoing mail.
Performs routine bookkeeping tasks; collects money intake and maintains accounting records associated with collections for accountability of funds.
Maintains documents and filing for Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Operates basic office equipment including a phone system, copier, fax machine, scanner, personal computer, printer, and related machinery; utilizes word processing, database, spreadsheet and related programs in performing daily tasks.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a high school diploma or GED with vocational or technical school training in business, bookkeeping, secretarial science or related field with a minimum of two years of experience overseeing daily office operations and performing routine bookkeeping tasks; some knowledge of the daily operations and security matters involved in working with inmate labor; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. At the discretion of the Department Director, this position may be required to have the ability to obtain and maintain Secure/Non-Secure certification through the Georgia Department of Corrections in conjunction with the Jackson County Correctional Institute. Must possess a valid drivers license and successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirement: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
