TRANSPORTATION ACTIVITIES ASSISTANT
Supervision and Direction:
The Transportation Activities Assistant will have primary responsibility for the resident van transportation services but will also be responsible for supporting other activity programs and services. The Transportation Activities Assistant will handle the logistics for executing the daily, weekly, and monthly transportation calendar and contribute to planning the trip calendar events. The Assistant will also be responsible for supporting on-site events and activity programs to engage residents.
Applicants should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills. The position will receive general supervision and direction from the Program Director or designee. He/she will comply with established policies and procedures. In the absence of the Director or designee, the Assistant will accept advice and instruction from the Executive Director.
Requirements:
General Requirements:
- High School Diploma and certain certifications may be required.
- Job training and first-aid and CPR training may be necessary.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Adaptability and strong organization and time management skills.
- Excellent resource management, and strong computer, record keeping, interpersonal, decision making, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Patience and compassion when dealing with others, especially those who are physically, mentally and/or emotionally challenged, elderly, or from different backgrounds.
- Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or early mornings.
- Willingness to adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
- Ability to continuously stand or walk.
- Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds consistently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Driving Requirements
- Must have hold a valid unrestricted driver’s license as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), i.e. at least 18 years of age with a good driving record. The definition of a good driving record is: A driver can certify that, during the last ten (10) years he/she has NOT had:
- More than one license.
- Any license suspended, revoked, or canceled.
- Any convictions in any type of motor vehicle for major disqualifying offenses.
- Two or more serious traffic violations within a 3-year period.
- These include excessive speeding, reckless driving, improper or erratic lane changes, following the vehicle ahead too closely
- Traffic offenses in connection with fatal traffic accidents
- Driving under the influence of a controlled substance or alcohol, or
- Leaving the scene of an accident or using a vehicle to commit a felony.
- Allow facility to obtain a driving record from the Maryland, DC and/or Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.
- Must be approved to drive vehicle by the insurance carrier.
- Must have passed a Department of Transportation drug screening.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Transportation Activities Assistant will be required to perform all duties necessary to maintain and drive a passenger van in the transportation of residents in a safe manner. Driver will follow driving and vehicle maintenance protocols, as defined by Homecrest House.
The Transportation Activities Assistant will also be required to perform all duties necessary to support the success of resident activity programs and events, ensuring resident safety and offering assistance, as needed. Specifically, this position will support other activity staff, entertainers, group leaders, residents, guests, etc. with needs related to activity programing.
The Transportation Activities Assistant will provided management of the resident Convenience Store, ordering supplies to ensure the store is adequately stocked, serve as primary sales person and reconciling cash with daily sales, and work with the Director to sustain and improve the stores operation to meet resident needs,.
Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
