The Pines at Davidson is hiring an PRN Activity Assistant. The primary responsibilities of the PRN Health Center Activity Assistant are to assist the Health Center Recreation Therapy Supervisor in weekend activities support for The Schramm Health Center. Duties include the provision of a structured activities program conducive to the needs and interests of residents on the Skilled Nursing, Memory Care and Assisted Living neighborhoods. Who you are
- High School Diploma required.
- Activities experience and at least one year experience in a long-term care setting that primarily serves a geriatric population preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing.
- Ability to walk, stand, lift, and push carts, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
- Ability to plan for residents’ daily leisure and recreational needs.
What you would do at The Pines
- Assist in providing for the general activity, leisure, and recreational needs of the residents.
- Implementing structured activities as assigned in The Schramm Health Center.
- Implement daily scheduled activities according to the time and activity posted on unit calendars; however, taking into consideration the special dynamics of dementia- related illness that may require flexible programming adjustments due to resident needs.
- Document daily activity attendance and participation levels of those attending group activities.
- Change daily reality orientation boards to reflect daily activities and date.
- Change unit bulletin boards and utilize creative means to cue residents to time of day, year, season, etc.
- Keep nursing staff and supervisor timely apprised of any resident needs.
- Provide direction for unit volunteers (individual and group) ensuring resident safety is maintained for a positive resident/volunteer experience.
- Request activity supplies and monitor for safety, security, and adequate amounts.
- Communicate resident needs verbally or in writing with the supervisor and other activity staff, particularly when working weekend shifts when another staff is not scheduled.
- Maintain Activity areas are clean by sanitizing tables and sweeping floors following group activities, refreshments, and meals. Incorporate one-task purposeful chores into the daily routine for residents who enjoy “work” related tasks as an activity but ensure the “work” activity is kept therapeutic in nature and not in violation of residents’ rights.
- Attend regularly scheduled department meetings, supervisory meetings, mandatory in-service training, and educational opportunities.
- Demonstrate at all times in dealings with residents, families, and the public, a positive image of The Pines as a caring and concerned organization.
- Uphold Resident’s Rights and adhere to confidentiality guidelines, particularly in relation to sensitive resident personal and health information.
- Dress in an appropriate manner for work with elderly clients. Closed-toed shoes are required for safety and per order of state regulation. Appropriate “dress” jeans (dark blue, colored, or tailored jeans) are permitted on “casual” Fridays and Saturdays (no tattered or faded jeans.)
- Assist the supervisor with any additional duties as requested.
