Job Description
Strategic Therapy Associates, Inc. is a community-based counseling agency servicing the state of Virginia. We provide hopeful, optimistic, and change-oriented mental health services to individuals and families. Our goal is to preserve families and prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and out-of-home placements. We are currently seeking a diligent, detail-oriented, thorough, and organized Accounts Receivable Specialist to ensure all fees for services are fully collected so revenue is maximized for continued agency growth. This position will start as a part-time position with the possibility of turning into full-time.
Duties:
- Monitors aging reports to identify accounts that are past due and minimizes the number of accounts that have payments due beyond 60 days.
- Reviews payment denials and discrepancies identified through the Explanation of Benefits, Electronic Remittance Advice, or other payer correspondence.
- Reviews and analyzes claim denials in order to perform the appropriate appeals necessary for reimbursement.
- Appeals denied claims and resubmits claims in a timely manner.
- Contacts clients and payers via phone and electronic inquiry for additional information when necessary to push claims through.
- Pursues all unpaid accounts via phone or electronic inquiry to determine the status of a payment.
- Documents all account activity in an accurate and timely manner for all actions made on accounts.
- Provides feedback to management regarding any patterns of payer denials or repetitive insurance verification, and billing errors that may be encountered during AR follow-up.
- Serves as backup to the Billing Specialist.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in Accounts Receivable working with Medicaid, commercial insurances, and community funding sources.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records and billing software- Lauris/Availity/ClaimMD preferred.
- Experience working for a mental health counseling or similar agency is a plus.
