Job Summary


The Accounting Manager of Portfolio Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting of CRH departments and properties. The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and supervises a small team including the accounts payable function. The Accounting Manager is expected to ensure a high level of service to stakeholders, providing responsive and proactive communication, while also ensuring compliance with policies and internal control procedures. This position must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

This position can be in person, hybrid, or remote, but must be able to work well with remote team members.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cash flow management and planning, and supervision and review of bank reconciliations
  • Review and reconcile weekly accounts payable activity
  • Review and post journal entries prepared by staff and other managers
  • Monitor daily scanned mail notifications and ensure that team members participate in reviewing and processing mail appropriately
  • Perform end-to-end accounting and support for a portfolio of buildings, and provide backup coverage for buildings in the event of staff outages or turnover
  • Perform construction project accounting for 1-3 projects at different stages of predevelopment, construction, and completion; track funding sources and uses
  • Assist with setting up accounting for buildings during transitions from construction to operations, or from operations to disposition or renovation
  • Manage assignment of job duties and projects for direct reports, and participate in department work planning
  • Participate in cross-functional committees or project teams as assigned
  • Supervise, train, and develop team members, contributing to the goals of the organization and quarterly and annual team goals
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:


Supervises two accounting specialists, and other staff or senior accountants depending on capacity.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Five years of accounting experience utilizing US generally accepted accounting principles, and demonstrating progressive responsibility and leadership; including management and supervisory skills
  • Experience with multifamily real estate
  • Proficient oral and written communications skills in English
  • Strong presentation skills in all settings, including remote, hybrid, and in-person
  • Ability to lead collaboratively, incorporating the organization’s mission and values to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent supervision and management service to team members
  • Expertise with a variety of software, including accounting systems, business applications (Excel, Outlook), and remote meeting applications


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with affordable housing, HUD and LIHTC
  • Familiarity with both FASB and GASB accounting requirements
  • Experience with accounting for multiple entities and funds, including consolidation and interfund transactions
  • Experience participating in financial statement audits
  • Knowledge of Abila MIP, RealPage, and Concur software a plus

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
