Job Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting the CFO in managing and directing the financial affairs of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries, Inc., including all bookkeeping and accounting, budgeting, coordination of purchasing and invoicing, preparing financial reports and analysis, and coordinating outside auditing services. This position is responsible for overseeing the Staff Accountant and Bookkeeper. The Accounting Manager is located in the Accounting department at the Main Office and reports to and is supervised by the CFO.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Manages the monthly accounting close process, including completion of journal entries, preparation of financial statements, account reconciliations and month end analysis of results
Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on a regular basis. This includes the formulation of accounting policies, the preparation of financial statements and operating data, the coordination of systems and procedures, and special reports as required.
Provides other departments with related information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
Executes cash disbursements for payment expenditures in accordance with disbursement policies.
Responsible for the training and development of the accounting staff, as well as resolving the day-to-day financial issues that arise.
Assures a positive employee relations position is maintained and Company’s management principles, policies, and programs are consistently practiced within the accounting department.
Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as directed by the CFO.
Annually reviews the Corporate Responsibility Policy and Ethics Policy to ensure departmental compliance with it. Makes suggestions for revisions, additions, etc. Reviews the policy with staff.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies policies, including Sarbanes/Oxley Act as it relates to non-profits.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain adequate insurance and pass a background check.
Supervises/Business Contact
Supervises the Staff Accountant and Bookkeeper of Youngstown Goodwill Industries, Inc.
Internal business contacts include communicating and interfacing with Board members, administrative staff and other staff as needed.
External business contacts will include outside sales representatives, auditors, and Insurance representatives, GII Staff, Payroll Contractor, and others as appropriate.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting/Finance, or related field, plus extensive experience of at least five years in a supervisory and financial administrative position.
