Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs responsible technical account maintenance and bookkeeping functions. This involves the application of basic bookkeeping principles and practices as applied to a variety of financial records and performs related work as required. Account clerks usually receive some instructions as to details and methods for most assignments, but are free to develop their own work sequences within established procedures and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determines validity of transactions, correctness of account codes, accuracy, completeness and agreement of accounts and posts to ledgers.
- Have responsibility for routine maintenance of complex records and a wide variety of less complex accounts; prepares bank deposits.
- Performs computer data entry and report generation functions.
- Waits on customers, takes payments and performs incidental clerical work.
- Performs accounts payable functions: process invoices, reconciles vendor statements, prepares and mails checks and generates a variety of related reports. Prepares travel advances, travel reimbursements and reconciles employee expense reports.
- Performs accounts receivable functions: Issues invoices, collects payments enters and balances data and prepares various reports.
- Performs purchasing functions in accordance with legal and administrative mandates, including requisitions and issuing and verifying purchase orders.
- Processes employee payroll, including time sheets, salary adjustments, taxes, and various reports, both manual and computerized.
- Processes employee benefits including retirement, SIIS, insurance, BOBRA, vacation and sick time tracking, other miscellaneous benefits and various related reports. Assure that the processing of new, existing and terminated employees relative to payroll and employee benefit matters are current and accurate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a good knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of bookkeeping, office filing systems and accounts maintenance including closing and balancing accounts.
- Requires ability to compile information, prepare moderately complex financial records and work within specific time frames.
- Must be able to operate adding machines and computerized systems.
- Ability to understand and follow brief instructions in regard to accounting problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with tribal officials and fellow employees.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, including or supplemented by additional formal training in bookkeeping and one-year experience in accounts maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
