Accounting degree or pursuit of degree is NOT required.
Job Summary:
Hello! I'm looking for my first team member! This would start as a part-time, entry-level, training on the job, public accountancy position. You do not need to have or pursue an accounting degree, but it does help. If you are detail oriented, a problem solver, a passionate learner, passionate about helping small businesses and keeping money out of the hands of Uncle Sam, and you want to grow with a firm that will literally be growing with you, then this might be the right fit!
Duties:
- Bookkeeping, periodic closing, and reconciliations using various software (QuickBooks, Zoho, Excel, etc.).
- Help me with client onboarding, answering questions, and scanning in documents.
- Help troubleshoot software issues once you've gained some mastery.
- File and pay sales and payroll taxes.
- Prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits.
- Prepare audits and build financial statements.
Requirements:
- You do not need a degree or desire to pursue a degree, but it does help.
- No experience needed. I will train.
- You should be able to quickly learn, unlearn, and relearn.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- You do need decent grammer, spelling, math, and communication skills.
- You should want to stay in the Mt. Pleasant area and grow with the firm.
- You should love helping small businesses fight the good fight.
- You will need your own desktop/laptop, cell phone, and internet if you choose to work from home. I'll help the right person with any upgrades or necessities until we have a fixed office.
- You will need to be okay with part-time (2-20 hours per week) while we grow as this position is built as an "internship" or "apprenticeship". You are welcome to keep college, a full-time job, or another part-time job while this position grows. This should be a full-time position in the next year.
- If you choose to work from home, you will need a peaceful and undisturbed setup.
- Must pass a background check.
Vision:
- A lot is happening! Between you being my first hire, adding our first partner this summer who has connections around the globe, and adding clients every day, this will very soon be a full-time position, and you will be helping me interview our next associate.
- When we get to that point, full-time will be considered 32 hours per week with no dip in pay.
- Clear path to partner:
1) Obtain your CPA license.
2) Bring in 50 new clients to the Firm or adopt 50 clients, with at least 30 of those clients being active businesses or nonprofits (easier than it sounds).
3) THREE (3) years of full-time service to the Firm. Compared to the industry average of 10-15 years. Tell me the fifth state of matter in your application to be considered. Yes, you can look it up.
4) Confidence and expertise in your chosen area (subjective, I know, but unfortunately not all CPAs are created equally).
5) Reasonable buy-in options that won't leave you feeling like you're making less than the interns.
Benefits:
- Tuition assistance for the right people.
- Paid for CPA exam study materials.
- Paid for CPA exam fees (first 4).
- Paid for EA exam study materials.
- Paid for EA exam fees (first 3).
- Free tax prep.
Please keep resumes to one (1) page!
