Accounting Assistant – Madison Heights, MI

What defines this job?
- Provide support for regional accounting functions, handling tasks such as processing vendor invoices, disbursement filing, and ensuring accuracy in A/P invoice matching and filing.
- Perform data entry tasks encompassing a wide variety of financial transactions, including cash receipts, credit card payments, daily invoicing/credits, new customer set-up, credit increases, etc.
- Manage incoming mail, faxes, and checks received by the department while maintaining meticulous record-keeping and filing systems.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures with accuracy, while also engaging in ad hoc projects that involve report financial data to journals and ledgers, ensuring compliance.
- See to the proper coding of documents that require knowledge in determining the proper classification of expenditure codes and accounting code.
- Analyze transaction information to identify refunds, delinquent accounts, and insufficient payments.
- Other duties as assigned.

What do we ask?
High school diploma required; Associate-level education or relevant work experience preferred. Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics, Navision preferred.) Strong familiarity with Basic Bookkeeping, including knowledge of A/P & A/R. General experience with Data Entry and general accounting tasks. Knowledge of business English with the ability to write in complete sentences using appropriate words, correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to devise or modify methods or processes to solve specific problems and ability to manage multiple projects and work under time pressures to meet established deadlines. Must be able to pass a criminal/credit background check and drug screen/fit-for-duty physical exam. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
