Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to support the Accessibility Resources department's efforts to help students navigate the overwhelming transition process, assist in accommodation implementation, and reduce barriers to academic success for students with disabilities and/or students on academic warning or suspension. The Graduate Intern will help students identify barriers to academic success and assist them in creating action plans for overcoming those challenges. This intern will help students to maximize their potential for academic success by supporting themand assisting them in gaining effective study strategies and behaviors. This position will provide academic coaching for students in our Career Technical Education programs as this is funded through Perkins funding.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual instruction and coaching sessions that enhance student's strategic thinking and academic skills regarding the following topics: time management, organization, note-taking, reading strategies, study skill strategies, goal setting, test taking strategies, communication with instructors, and community and college resources.
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead small group workshop for new and returning Inver students in the Learning Center at strategic points in the semester on a variety of academic topics.
  • Assist students with implementing assistive technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the Office of Accessibility Resources.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completed bachelor's degree
  • Pursing a graduate degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Special Education, Psychology or other Liberal Arts and Social Sciences majors
  • Familiarity with internship processes
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written, oral and electronic)
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Competency with a range of office software products and data collection tools
  • High initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to function independently
  • Experience working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities from diverse and/or underrepresented populations
  • Prior professional, Student Worker or intern experience in college or university setting
  • Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, steady-paced and multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimum supervision

Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State'svehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
