Position Title: Access Services Assistant Manager
Position Reports to:Access Services Manager
Number and Titles of People Directly Supervised: None; assists Access Services Manager with supervision and evaluation of 12-16; Circulation Clerks and Circulation Team Leaders

Nature and Scope of Job:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt position whose primary responsibility is to assist the Access Services Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Access Services Department, including the implementation of policies and procedures, training and evaluating the progress of staff, and oversight and management of the Access Services Department when the Access Services Manager is not present.
Essential Functions
- Accurately performs essential circulation functions and procedures, in addition to and including all duties of the Circulation Team Leader(s).
- Perform direct oversight and management of the Circulation Team.
- Coordinate daily schedules, assignments, and tasks for the Circulation Team.
- Assist Access Services Manager in the hiring, training, and evaluation of Access Services Department staff, particularly Circulation Team employees.
- Assist in the maintenance and evaluation of department schedules.
- Collect, count, and balance cash from all points of sale.
- Bill patrons regarding damaged returns and resolves billing on patron accounts.
- Solve complex patron issues, referring to the Access Services Manager and other departments, as necessary.
- Process interlibrary loan materials as necessary.
- Provide continuing education for Circulation Team employees on circulation policies and procedures.
- Responsible for training Circulation Team staff in sorting and shelving materials.
- Monitor and troubleshoot, as necessary, performance of ILS and RFID equipment.
- Assist with acquisitions and cataloging when needed.
- Oversee the development and implementation of Citizen Services (passports, license plate stickers, notary, etc.); provide ongoing training to staff, as necessary.
- Participate in professional development by attending appropriate conferences, meetings, workshops, and seminars.
- Oversee and manage the Access Services Department in the absence of Access Services Manager.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a wide variety of formats.
- Ability to interpret library policies and procedures for the public in a customer-friendly manner.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patrons and staff.
- Ability to independently exercise judgment within established library policy.
- Ability to deal calmly and effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful or emergency conditions.
- Ability to prioritize and schedule tasks and responsibilities to utilize time most efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate consistent accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity.
- Knowledge of standard computer operations and applications.
- Knowledge of the use of integrated library systems.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
Essential Physical Requirements
Work takes place in a typical office and library environment. The person in this position:
- Must remain in a stationary standing and/or sitting position for long periods of time.
- Must operate a computer and computer keyboard for long periods of time. Constantly uses office machinery and equipment.
- Frequently moves around inside the library to access workstations, meetings, office machinery and equipment, program, and library materials.
- Frequently moves and traverses with library materials of up to 70 lbs.
- Constantly positions oneself to access, move, prepare, and place library materials.
- Must be able to traverse distances of more than 300 feet within the building and grounds.
- Constantly practices situational awareness, observing and greeting patrons.
- Must be able to meet attendance requirements.
- Must be able to work a variable schedule which may include day, evening, and weekend hours.
Education
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) required.
Experience
- Four (4) years customer service experience required.
- One (1) year or more of supervisory experience preferred.
