Job Description
This position serves as primary advisor for freshmen and sophomore students in SOE. Prepares degree audits and four-year plans to transition upper class students to faculty for advising. The incumbent serves as initial point of contact for undergraduate students regarding academic problems, student-faculty conflicts, and personal issues. Provides career advisement to students and offers suggestions on appropriate internships/experience credits.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Ability to work well with students. Good oral and written communications skills.


Job Specific Qualifications
  • Masters Degree preferred and three (3) plus years of advising experience.
  • PeopleSoft, Hyperion, Microsoft Office, knowledge of University policies and procedures a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising to School of Education undergraduate students. Serve as the primary advisor for 1st year and sophomore SOE students.
  • Prepare degree audits to transition students to faculty for junior and senior year advising.
  • Serve as initial contact for undergraduate students regarding academic problems, student-faculty conflicts, and personal issues.
  • Provides career advisement to students and offers suggestions on appropriate internships/experience credits.
  • Advise SummerStart students.
  • Proctor exams for students who take courses at other institutions.
  • Advise students on course selection, discuss minor and major options, and refer students to other services on campus, such as Tutoring, Career Services, Study Abroad, Financial Aid, etc.
  • Assist students with petition processes.
  • Counsel probation students, which includes monitoring academic progress and providing academic support.
  • Monitor and certify SOE undergraduate, MS, and CAS certifications, which involves preparing paperwork and communicating with students and departments.
  • Collaborate with Certification Advisor regarding degree clearances who need New York State institutional recommendations and out-of-state certification verifications.
  • Collaborate with VPA and A&S faculty and staff to clear dually enrolled students.
  • Monitor and update Degree Works.
  • Create and update First Term Enrolment (FTES) forms for incoming 1st year and transfer students.
  • Register 1st year students and transfer students and evaluate external transfer credits.
  • Assist with curricular programs such as Syracuse Welcome and FYS 100 to facilitate orientation of incoming first year and transfer students.
