Job Summary
The College of Education is seeking an Academic Advisor/Recruiter. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Academic Advisor provides clear and comprehensive support for current and prospective pre-service teacher candidates and education students in academic program planning, registration, establishing career goals and meeting licensure requirements, and understanding and completing program application requirements. They help monitor progress of degree-seeking students, advise and orient students regarding university and major-specific regulations related to degree completion, and support retention of current teacher candidates. They assist the Head Advisor, Program Leads, and other college faculty/staff in facilitating/attending orientation and recruitment related activities, developing partnerships with internal and external partners to increase visibility of College of Education programs, and supporting students throughout their degree. This position coordinates with other University departments and advisors to support and promote student success and stay updated on college and university policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. This position works with the student information system and various data files and sources, and prepares a wide variety of reports using multiple databases and spreadsheets. This position may assist with academic programs, recruiting efforts, or special projects within the College of Education. High-quality and consistent undergraduate academic advising that supports the whole student is critical to the educational objectives of the College and University.
This position, along with all positions within the College of Education, is directly responsible for advancing the mission and strategic plan of the College. The College of Education contributes to major national dialogues concerning research and the promotion of social justice in (1) the success of English language learners of all ages; (2) developmentally appropriate pedagogy for all ages;(3) learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics inside and outside of school; (4) the preparation of mental health and school counselors; (5) adult and higher education leadership. We develop change agents in the form of formal and informal educators, counselors, and leaders. These change agents identify issues and act towards social justice and the full-development of human potential and society. We support the campus-wide goal to provide transformational educational experiences. Key Responsibilities
80% ACADEMIC ADVISING

• Provide academic advising to prospective, incoming, and continuing students in undergraduate and graduate education programs within the Department of Education Practice and Research in the College of Education (program specific assignments subject to change based on need and student populations).
• Support students in setting and making academic and career goals through academic program planning, understanding teacher education program application and licensure requirements, explaining university policies, procedures, and regulations, and registration processes. Orient students to campus and community resources and make referrals as needed.
• Develop and sustain partnerships with advisors in related colleges and other university partners.
• Provide guidance to students regarding experiential opportunities and student success strategies.
• Meet with students experiencing academic difficulty and develop plans for success.
• Review transfer courses and evaluate transfer credits as needed for degree requirements in conjunction with Head Advisor and Program Leads.
• Utilize appropriate student record systems and data to track student progress, maintain accurate notes and records, and provide proactive support based on student demographics and needs.
• Assist with graduation audits for undergraduate and graduate programs, including proper notification to students, Registrar's Office, and the Graduate school.
• Assist in facilitating START (new student orientation) presentations and advising for newly admitted students.
• Support the College's mission to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through student support and advising.
• Engage with College and University faculty and administration, as well as community partners, to develop strategies for creating a more diverse pipeline of educator candidates and increase enrollment and program completion for educator candidates from federally-recognized minority groups and educator candidates in state-designated high-needs areas.
• In collaboration with Head Advisor, Program Leads, and other college staff, participate in recruitment activities, such as Beaver Open House, Orange and Black Days, class visits, etc. to increase enrollment for assigned programs.

15% PROJECTS AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

• Act as liaison to advisors in other colleges (e.g. College of Science, Liberal Arts, etc.) and at community colleges to communicate and coordinate program requirements and pathways to teacher licensure.
• Assist in reviewing program requirements, recommending updates to curriculum and scheduling, and assessing program effectiveness.
• Coordinates and assigns work to college peer ambassadors to brainstorm and offer presentations, workshops, and other events to share info about college programs and develop a College of Education community.
• Review and update options and content mastery forms in partnership with Head Advisor, Program Lead, college faculty, and advisors across campus.
• Support department in identifying and reviewing advising assessment and continuous improvement.
• Other projects as assigned.

5% PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE

• Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to improve individual, college, and university advising practices.
• Participate in training and development opportunities focused on the College of Education commitment to enhancing diversity, inclusion and social justice and improving the student experience for teacher candidates.
• Represent the college on university advising committees as needed/directed

What You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• One year or more of professional experience in a role related to or comparable to student services and support in K-12 or higher education.
• Experience in working with and supporting diverse populations, such as different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations and preferences, abilities, veterans' statuses, and socioeconomic levels.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
• Experience working with computers and technology, with the ability to learn new technology and computer systems for supporting students.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have

• Master's degree in Education, Student Services, Academic Advising, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience in teacher education and/or previous K-12 teaching experience.
• Experience working in higher education in advising or student success roles.
• Experience with student information systems and degree auditing systems, such as Banner and Degree Works.
• Previous experience recruiting diverse students and/or bilingual Spanish/English speaking students.
• Prior experience working with graduate students.
• Knowledge of educator prep programs and/or experience working with education students.
• Bilingual, particularly in Spanish

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Typical office environment Monday through Friday on the Corvallis campus with a hybrid schedule possible based on student/program needs. (In-person appointments and events will be required on the Corvallis campus). The position requires working some evening and weekend events. There is some travel within Oregon for advising, recruiting, outreach, and partnership events.
